ok guys need a little help. I have been looking at a new racing ecm and it says i need to recalibrate my tps. I bought the service manual when I bought the bike, so I have the info on how to do it but, it says that if you properly calibrated it that the tps will indicate 3.7 to 4.2 degrees. I am a mechanic so I know I can do this but I dont understand what degrees means. Any help would be great! |

I don't believe there is a racing ECM for any '08 Buell model. You are likely looking at a racing ECM for one of the prior year models. "Degrees" refers to the scanalyzer readout of the TPS output for the throttle idle position. When the idle is set per spec and the TPS calibration properly performed, the TPS should indicate a throttle opening rotation from fully closed of between 3.7 to 4.2 degrees. |

FYI: The TPS reset procedure for the 2008 Buells is much improved, very much automated compared to previous models. The '08 bikes have some kind of automated idle air control. Anyway, the older ECMs won't work, race or otherwise, with any '08 models. |

The old (pre-2008) ecms do not fit into the 2008 models, because of changed connectors. As either the camshaft sensor changed to a crankshaft sensor and the old models didn't have an IAC, they are pretty useless for the new models anyway. Regards, Gunter |

Nowhere on the Buell P&A site does it specifically say that the ECM fits an 08. It does say 04 and later (XB12) or 05 and later (XB9), and one might infer that that means it will fit an 08. It will not. Al |

Thanks for clarifying that Al. Looks like Buell.com is apparently needing to update their old, pre-2008 verbiage concerning their pre-2008 race ECMs. Gearhead, If the ECM you have is advertised as working on any pre-2008 Buell, then that ECM will not work on your new 2008 Buell. If it is specifically advertised to be compatible with 2008 Buell motorcycles, then it should work. We'd sure like to know the web page on Buell.com where you found it. |

That ECM will absolutely not work on your 2008 model Buell. You don't want it. Buell does not offer any way to plug in a laptop. Do a search for "Direct Link" or "ECM Spy" here in the KV for that. Google "ECM Spy" google "Direct Link" |

the 08 doesnot have a supported race ecm. you have to build your own ecm from a tuner who has the power to do it. i can do it for you. but i have to be at the bike to do that. when the new ecmspy is out it will be able to do the 08. no release date just yet. the avail current ecmspy cant do the 08. but ecmspy2 will do it. on pc not sure on the palm spy. you will have to ask gunter. as i have all versions here of ecmspy i can help guide you through it. its not hard it just takes time learning all the insides or what the data is doing. ecmspy.com has all the info you need to get yourself going. anyquestions on ecmspy fill free to ask. i have used ecmspy and ecmspy2 beta, and the race tuner but not directlink. i also have a new tuner i use for my own stuff. i made myself. its a dos mode program. i am not good enough to build it windows versions sorry. its mainly just ecmspy2 with a few less things in some places and a couple more in others. very crude looking program but it works.i use it with ecmspy data you download and upload. mike |
