Yes I know there has been much to say about tire alternatives for the Ulysses. I was hoping for some informed insight to this issue. I am in the process of planning (for the summer of 2009) a long tour from the east coast all the way to the far reaches of Alaska and the Canadian Northern provinces. While we will be spending a lot of time on the road, there will be considerable amount of unimproved road riding. I was thinking about the PIRELLI MT60R as an alternative to the Sync for the front. Right now I am not sure about an alternative to the rear tire, the available dual sport type tires do not fit the Uly wheel. Are there any alternatives??? Is it possible to mount the smaller MT60R 160/60VR-17 on the rear. What are the consequences? I could consider having tires shipped to a destination and change them out before we start trekking into the unknown great white north. |

Yes, you can mount that rear tire. It won't last long and handling won't be the best, but it will give good off road traction. |

Cityxslicker just put the MT60's on his Cityx. I am not sure of the size, but he hasn't said anything good or bad about it yet that i know of. |

Those things are a damn hoot in the chunky muddy mucky winter mess that we have up here. A rooster tail never shot so good off a street bike I will get the tire sizes for you tomorrow. Caution, these are not long haul tires, I fully expect to be through them by the end of winter. Dont know if it makes a good choice if you are going to be doing alot of slab up to Alaska. I will post some pics of the dirty bike (it didnt stay clean long) |

I could consider having tires shipped to a destination and change them out before we start trekking into the unknown great white north. I think that is a great idea. No need to ride all the way up there on dirt oriented tires. |

I am running the MT60 120/70 for the front MT60 160/60 for the rear. They work great in the muddy mucky sluggy stuff that we get up here, I havent tried snow yet, but it is on my list to do.

Wow, thanks everyone for your inputs. I think I am definitely going to have the MT60's as my prime option for the off road treks in the far north. Then probably change back to Syncs for the ride back home.

Before serious winter hit I put Avon Distanzias on front and back and got one off road ride in. Road riding was not compromised, for the most part, but gravel and dirt was far more enjoyable. The 160mm rear fit right on and looks no narrower than the 180mm Pirelli. |

I used the MT60's on my Uly to go to the bottom of Copper Canyon. They worked great, but the rear was gone in about 2500 miles. |

CityX, you mean over-all good? How was it on pavement? I'd like to see the 2010 Olympics, and home. Would it be foolish to put em on in AZ looking forward to the white stuff up north? Sorry if I missed a more comprehensive review elsewhere. . . |
