I finally got to touch and sit on the 1125R for the 1st time this week. New Castle HD/Buell received their 1st 1125R. I spent considerable time going over all the details I have been reading about for so many months. I agree the bike looks better in person. The cooling pods get distorted in most pictures. One thing I did notice is the oil cooler is mounted flat in front of the engine directly behind the front wheel. With the large effort to get the cooling radiators mounted in the pods, I'm surprised at the oil cooler location. There is tons of room inside the rear swing arm or another oil cooling section in the pods would seem to make more sense. I like the sideways mounting on the XB's better, less susceptible to rocks from the front wheel. | ||

Dave- I noticed the oil cooler also, and was wondering what type of abuse it will take before damage occurs. Also, couldn't agree more about it looking better in person. I gotta ask...Are you considering buying that one (#694) at New Castle? It's on my to do list to buy it, but I've gotta get my current bike sold first. Just trying to gauge if I have to wait for "#2" to show up there. Talked to Leon and Nancy at NCHD, and I would have to take a substantial loss if I wanted to do a trade in. So, I'm going to give it a month or so and see if it sells online. If not, I'll go the trade-in route. | ||

Ponti1, I'm still happy modifying my XB12Scg at the moment. No worry about me purchasing the 1125R for now. I'm so happy we now have the opportunity to stay with a Buell and move to a liquid cooled V-twin if we want. A low street fighter version of the 1125R is going to be irresistible. | ||

My naked SV1000 has the oil cooler mounted horizontally below the front cylinder, to the rear of the exhaust pipe, directly behind the front tire. It has a protective grill. After 22,000 miles, no problem. It must get plenty of airflow and on rainy days, it's water-cooled  Dave | ||

I think we are going to need a screen for the oil cooler. I'm sure Al will come up with something. | ||

I just want a longer front fender. The whole front of the bike is constantly filthy. I even get splash on the INSIDE of my windshield. No recourse but power wash, still too cold here for that. Screen's probably a good idea, I don't have any experience with coolers this low and centered. Z | ||

My Duc 900 SSCR had the cooler in about the same location. Didn't seem to have any ill effects. | ||

Judging from the small gravel in my airbox, it looks like the oil cooler is kind of getting sand blasted. If it's getting up there, it surely is hitting the oil cooler. Keeping in mind it is winter and there is sand (small gravel) everywhere, put down to keep the cars from sliding off the road when the roads are snow covered and iced over. Probably won't be so bad when it's warmer. I've got some stainless perforated sheet with 3/32 and some with 1/16th inch perforations I'm going to try on mine. With it being so cold I don't think it will be a problem blocking some of the air. Also going to try something to keep the gravel out of the airbox. The oil cooler is quite a bit bigger than those on the pre poduction models (from the pictures) so maybe they'll require less air flow to keep the oil cool...?? JJ |
