Guys, I'm in the process of painting the S2, and was looking to repaint it in its original "Parkway Blue". I found the "Sikkens" paint codes in the archives. But, I can't find anyone around that deals in this brand. Is Sikkens still around? Is there any cross-refernce for other brands of paint? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.... |

I had heard they no longer sell in the US all the EPA shit... Since Buell switched to PPG after the S2 you might want to try their color match system.. Keep us informed if you find out anything... |

If you have a good painter nearby they should be able to computer-scan a piece of the bodywork and generate a recipe. |

Re: color matching We painted our house last year and color matched some paint. One brand came out blue, okay. Went back and they were out of that brand. Alright, so color match again in their other brand of paint. Go home with a test can and test paint a portion of the garage, uh, came out more purple than blue. Alright, back to the store, the house and garage are a tan/brown now. Not sure if this is what happened to the original Parkway Blue (looks purple to me), but if you're color matching then do some test painting to be sure what you want is what you get. YMMV |

Your best bet is to have it color matched at a PPG store. Sikkens is available here in the US but in 1998-1999 they reformulated tieir paints (as did everyone else at one time or another)to meet current and near future EPA regs. There is no cross reference from old numbers to new paint. Brad |

Thanks Guys! I thought about the computerized color matching the problem is that it had been repainted by the previous owner. There were one or two patches that you could sort of see the old color, but not good enough for a paint match (I think). Plus, I have primed over that now... I may end up using a non-original paint color. If I find out anything, I'll post it here. Thanks. |

I seem to remember that there was a recent Ford color that was remarkably close to Parkway Blue. You might search the archives for that. |

You might want to try riding the bike (or take a body piece) to the local Ford dealer service dept and see if they'll show you the paint chip books. They should have no objection and they may even have an idea of what paint will match. Just notice you said you primed over it. Well it still might be worth checking the Ford paint books. If you don't find the color to match you just might find a color you want. (Message edited by not_purple_s2 on March 31, 2008) |

Guys, Yeah there are a couple of current automotive paints that appear to be close to Parkway Blue. Or, at least close enough to suite me. I figured that I would try to get the Parkway Blue first. If that fails in the next couple of days, I will likely go with GM's "Cobalt Blue (? - on some of the new cars and SUV's)". It isn't too far off. I've seen the Ford color. A late 90's Ford pickup pulled up beside me the other day and I was looking it over... Just weighing the options and figured I would go original if possible, if not anything close to that will work. |

Was the parkway blue the real dark, almost black/purple blue? If so, I just got a spare S2 tank cover in that color, original paint. I'd be happy to let someone borrow it if they needed a color match... |

That's probably Black Sapphire, Joe. This is Parkway Blue I thought my bike was parkway blue for a long time but then someone here corrected me. The Black Sapphire is a bit of a color change paint it looks blue in full light, black in low light, and purple in between. |

Top one looks like what I've got. I thought it was a black cover until I cleaned the dust off of it...but whaddya want for $1, LOL. One (small) step closer to putting that bare frame back to being a bike |

I didn't have a decent pic of mine and I just searched through the pics. That's a pretty close match, Pete, at least in photos. I like it too. |

Well, I've given up the search for Sikken paint, and I've picked a paint that appears to be a close match to "Parkway Blue" (at least from the paint chip book). We'll see how it looks when its done... The color I went with is from a 1995 Ford. It is Ultra Violet Metallic. Looking at the paint itself, it appears a little lighter and brighter than the Parkway Blue. I'm hoping it darkens up a little once shot, and dried (like the paint chip book showed). The other color I was looking at, and really liked was GM's 2008 Nitrous Blue. But, I haven't painted anything in a while, and certainly nothing this complex, with all of its compound curves. So I figured I would try matching the original paint. It was also cheaper, so mistakes from the learning curve wouldn't be as painfull! I post pictures when I get her done. |

Well, I took the day off yesterday (while the weather was so nice), and shot the paint and clear coat. It did darken up slightly. I was thinking that it looked way more purple than stock (I've only ever seen one other Parkway Blue bike in person). But, after looking at the picture that Not-Purlpe S2 posted, maybe not... I hope to have it back together this weekend. I'm waiting on some graphics that I'm putting on the saddle bags, and I want to clear coat over them before I start assembling. I should be able to post some pictures around the begining of next week. |

Well, here she is! I'm not sure how close it is to the original Parkway Blue, but I'm kind of digging it! In the shade, as shown, it is more of a Cobalt Blue. But, in the sun it is bright Purple! I've already gotten everything "way cool" to WTF! |

I'll post some more shots in the sun, later in the week (hopefully). I'm in the process of modifying the inner bags to accept the HD tour-pack latch (thanks Onahog!). I put a chrome pegasus decal on the bag lids and clear coated over them. I think it will look pretty good with the rest of the bike... We'll wait for the final verdict when complete. Thanks for everyone's input... |
