Looking at Buells offering for luggage for my 12ss.....I am not all that excited. So what is everyone using..... I guess I am going to need more that those little cases can offer....I would like to be able to hall gear for a week or so of touring...... Did I mention I love that bike? | ||

I use the Buell luggage (trunk bag, saddle bags and tank bag) and find it competent for about a week of travel gear. Although they are small, you would be surprised at how much you can cram in to the saddle bags and trunk bag. My feeling is that if they were any bigger you'd pack far too much in them which would lead to balance and safety issues. The Buell luggage is designed to stay securely in place (which it does even at aggressive speed) while maintaining a high level of safety. I know their luggage gets a bum rap, but I'm happy with it's design, durability and look. IMO of course. | ||

I have an '06 Buell, and after waiting for MONTHS for Buell to release saddlebags, I ended up buying a set of Dowco sportbike saddlebags. They are spacious, mount securely, and look great... and they are a fraction of the cost of the Buell bags, too. | ||

The Coretech bag system looks much like the Buells bags, just a bit bigger. They do fit well and look good too. I have the tailbag and love the size, fit, and quality of finish. I like the Buell bags also... I just wanted a tailbag but Buell doesn't offer it solo. | ||

I bought some "BikeMaster" bags. They are huge! And expand further than what I will ever need. Bought them off Ebay for 75$ Check into them, they are very spaciuos. | ||

Here's a photo of my XB12Ss taken this past June at Americade. I just finished installing them in the Tourexpo Parking Lot. As you can see, it was raining. I just realized it's rained for every damned event I've attended this year (and my own club's event was canceled due to rain). Maybe it's time to move to Arizona! I'm so sick of rain!!!  | ||

I love my Cortechs. Sport saddlebags, tailbag and mini tankbag. I've taken them on week long trips and you can fit quite a bit in them if you try. Very well built and they don't budge. Neoprene pads under everything (even the seat straps) also help keep things from moving around. Plus they're pretty adjustable. I changed from an R to a Ss and they fit both great. | ||

Check out RKA, not a sponsor here so do a Google search. I've had about 3 sets on different bikes and they are very durable and spacious. They'll also color match for a small premium. very secure belt mounting system. I also like the Dry Bags in the Aerostitch catalogue, but I haven't used them, just the Chase Harper tankbag they sell. | ||

I'm assuming there's nothing else I need to order - no mounting hardware or additional straps, etc. Right? | ||

I just installed Buell bags on my 12Ss and the kit is complete. Installation is easy, just watch the straps that go under the seat - if not done right - seat will not install. Initial impression from me is that I like the bags, - time will tell how they hold up. I wish the bags could carry a 8.5 x 11 inch text book - but that may be asking too much. Everything is a compromise. I think that the bags look good on the bike and they seem secure, again, time will tell. I didn't, but it might be a good idea to spray the bags with "Scotchbright" waterproofer before installation. | ||

I use the Buell bags as well - tank bag, saddle bags, and trunk bag. They may not look that big, but when expanded, they can hold a good amount. Here's a picture from when a buddy and I went to go see Daves for the weekend. I didn't have the tank bag on then. I was able to get everything packed in the rear bags.  | ||

I don't know what kind of time frame you're looking at Lost, but I'm almost positive I'll be getting the large Rev Pack Tour Pack here in the next month or two.  We could meet up after I get it, and see how it fits on your bike, if it's something you'd be interested in. The design is growing on me more and more. I'm thinking tools in one lower side, flat tire kit (and compressor) in the other, then the hole 12"x11"x24" area will hold a weeks worth of clothes easy, or a weekends worth of clothes and a tent. $105 including the rain cover is tough to beat! In conjunction with other luggage I use the Buell saddlebags and am reasonably satisfied with them. About 11 litres each when expanded. Not really waterproof so plastic liner bags are wise. Careful installation will be rewarded but the system is OK with one exception - there is no fore and aft location to stop the bags from moving forward a bit. To overcome that I fabricated these locators from steel tube with a washer welded on at both ends. The buffer on the bag locates into the tube and the washer, faced with thin rubber, bears against the side of the bag.  Ventura make rearward soft luggage for the Ss. I use their frame system and 10 litre Sport Bag most of the time, but for touring substitute a 26 litre Givi topbox, giving a total of 48 litres, which is enough for me for solo touring.  Topboxes aren't everyone's cup of tea but they are very effective and waterproof. Easy to load too without things dropping onto the ground.  | ||

I am trying to remember who it was that showed an XB12stt (or ss) with a set of the Hepco-Becker hardbags mounted. It was sano for sure, but I can't remember if passenger pegs were doable with them. This will be the start of building a mini-Uly- any other cool suggestions invited. | ||

Do you have to re-located the turn signals to fit the Cortech sport bags? I've got an '08 XB12R to try to fit it onto. |
