Here is a pic of Honda's answer to the Buell XB9/12S. B et they bring it out a couple of thousand cheaper than the Buell to try and grab market share. Note the front brake and underbelly muffler. Stolen directly from Buell. Shameless. [image]http://www.motorsports-network.com/articles/Images/con12.jpg[/image] |

Isn't that the Honda NAS (new american sportbike) concept that they brought out around the same time as the XB9R was unveiled? Last I checked the bike wasn't even close to being rideable. I think it doesn't even run. Mike L. |

"Isn't that the Honda NAS (new american sportbike) concept that they brought out around the same time as the XB9R was unveiled? Last I checked the bike wasn't even close to being rideable. I think it doesn't even run." Hence, Buell's trade mark expression . . . "You can't ride a spec sheet!" ha ha

Yep that is the Honda NAS. It is just a concept bike that was first shown in 2000. I seriously doubt they will even produce it. It is minimalist, but not ugly in my opinion. But very impractical and uncomfortable, I'd imagine. |

FWIW, I'd jump on the NAS. From the first minute I saw it I thought it was supremely cool. An RC51 motor in an East Meets West (Anime meets Erik Buell) design. That and the MH900e are probably the only 2 sporting bikes I'd buy simply because they're SO aesthetically pleasing to me. Anyway, that's the sincerest form of flattery. Too bad it's not a real bike really rideable and buyable by real riders. -Saro |

I remember that. When the XB9R came out Eric Buell was asked about it and he replied something to the effect that it was great but his would be hitting the streets in a couple of months.

...and I tossed in my favorite Steve Jobs quote

I'll qualify that by saying the NAS is a VERY neat looking bike. Just think if you could see what Erik Buell has in his head! |

I'm assuming the bike looks better in the flesh... er, metal. I'm not attracted. Don't get me wrong, I've owned and ridden Hondas longer than Buells, but that front fork is just ugly and the bike doesn't have a concerted look. It's good to see that Buell is having that kind of effect on the big-H, though. |

I had the pleasure of spending an evening at a party with the NAS and a V-ROD in the middle of the room (by the way, do NOT ask me why there was no Buell...I'm still major pissed about that) and the NAS is a fascinating bike to look at. I collected a group of very detailed photos (hey, they said it was okay, so whilst the Irish sipped whiskey, I snapped away) to watch and see what parts see the light of day. The NAS did much to illustrate how far ahead of the curve Buell really is. Court |

Thanks! That's a wicked front brake set-up. I'm sure it's not, but that fork assembly looks heavy. |

I'd be a little wary of riding that thing, that ain't no fork on the front, wonder how stable that thing is? And what is with the rear end, is that the brake line right next to the chain, looks? No I'm no mechanic, but it all looks a little weird to me. edited by southernmarine on July 27, 2003 |

hehe my Buell had a carbon fiber rear fender back in '95 - how's that for ahead of the curve (pun intended) |
