If one were so inclined to put an S1/X1 style fairing on say... an S2, what parts would he need? So far I see that I'll need the headlight mounts, headlight, flyscreen, and dash. Also it looks like the dash on these are mounted to the bar clamps which don't exist on my S2. I imagine that I could drill and tap the top triple clamp and use spacers. Do the fairing parts interchange between the S1 and X1 models? For example will an X1 flyscreen fit an S1 mount? Any thoughts, tips, suggestions? |

I know S2 purists might not like it but after seeing the bike today with no fairing, I like it. It really changes the whole look of the bike. The fairing isn't damaged badly but the mount/spider piece is bent pretty good. Unfortunately, the sideplate is broken, as you can see. I'm thinking of smoothing it down and cutting the left side to match, kinda like the early Buells. |

Front is all bolted up to the headlight bracket. You'll need the front brackets for the h-light turn signals and the h-light bucket and lamp. The brackets clamp onto the forks. Piece o cake. |

I'm joggin the memory but I believe an X1 has the left guage (tach) higher with the lump on the left and an S1 the lump is on the right so get it all from 1 source if you can. They won't mix n'match. |

Yeah, the X1 adn S1 fairings are dfferent.. in the respect you mentioned... I think, getting a M2 dash, and fairing woudl look a little better...lower profile... But... Other than that... Chase |

Would an M2 fairing fit on a S1 or X1 mount? Gotta get one of those to fit the inverted forks. |

I know it's a S3, but it has a S1 front fairing, errr... flyscreen on it. This particular bike, even though it was on Uke's showroom floor during the 2004 Homecoming, has a history as a Buell Engineering bike.

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I hit up Jstfrfun, who is parting out his X1, for the full set-up. But I've also seen all the various parts on eBay quite often, so hopefully I can move forward with this mod soon. Except for drilling holes in the upper triple clamp it shouldn't be anything that I cant reverse easily if I change my mind. Actually I'll probably run without the dash for awhile to make sure I like the looks and don't mind the limited wind protection before I permanently alter anything. I'll just have to be careful not to drive too fast with no speedometer. I took it out for a spin around the block today and liked it but I wasn't about to go very far with no light, turn signals, or mirrors. That's just asking for a ticket. |

Limited wind protection for sure. Thought I would try the opposite of what your doin. (x1 with s3) I love the looks and bein out in the breeze so to speak but, man it can be a killer in the wintertime. When its all done please post pics so we can see it eh? |

The S1 and X1 mounts are not the same. Either will work with any combination of headlamp, fairing etc, but the X1 brackets are much nicer, and less flimsy than the earlier S offerings. I have X1 brackets on my S1W for this reason.
I think I'm right in saying the S1W and X1 had a slightly larger headlamp diameter too. Such means the buckets are larger too. I think, the M2 an S1 had smaller headlamps than the later offerings. But I could be wrong. Rocket |

I think X1 and S1 lamps are quite the same (Bosch), M2 headlight were always different (Hella) and a little smaller even though they changed the bucket design slightly in 01. I might be wrong... |
