I thought the same thing...
Mine also took 4 quarts, so I will be draining a little under 1 quart tomorrow morning.
Also did the aprilia place give you a delivery date yet? |

The owners manual clearly states to check oil level with bike on the side stand. Perhaps the manual is incorrect, or just incomplete- maybe it should be on the sidestand until the final step of checking the dipstick?
Here's a paste of the online manual oil level check intructions.
Ride motorcycle for approximately 10 minutes. Ride at least 5 miles 8 kilometers to ensure the oil is hot and the engine is at normal operating temperature. Readings taken with colder oil could lead to an overfull engine condition.
"Place motorcycle on its sidestand" on firm level ground. An uneven surface will produce a false oil reading.
Idle the motorcycle for three minutes on its sidestand. Shut off the motorcycle.
Wait for two minutes after shutdown before reading the oil level, or false readings may result.
See Filler Plug/Dipstick Location: Buell 1125R Models. Unscrew and remove dipstick from oil filler hole. Wipe dipstick clean.
Insert dipstick into oil filler hole, screwing dipstick in completely.
NOTE:
Refer to Recommended Engine Oils. Use only recommended oil specified in Engine Lubrication: Buell 1125R Models.
See Oil Dipstick Proper Operating Range: Buell 1125R Models. Unscrew and remove dipstick and note oil level. An indicated oil level between MIN and MAX (measured after performing steps 1 through 6) is acceptable for safe engine operation. Oil should be added in 3-7 fl. oz. 0.1-0.2 L increments, depending on how far the level is from the MAX reading. Confirm oil level by repeating steps 1 through 7. |

Lets hope they don't consume oil, thats certainly a PITA procedure for checking the level. |

We'll see if we can't get some sort of "official" reading on this.
I've spoken to two dealers, one of whom had to "add 3 quarts". I'm guessing now that they may have been added unnecessarily.
We'll see if we can get the differences in quantities reconciled and get a recommended procedure confirmed. |

My WAG is that the oil quantity and procedure to check is the same as the Rotax 998 in the Aprilia. Ride the bike for about 10 miles until the oil is completely up to temperature, pull over and let the engine idle for about a minute. Shut off engine and keep bike vertical - check oil level. On the Aprilia, there is a sight tube instead of a dip stick, so you can check level while engine is idling. The V60 takes 4 quarts after a filter change. |

The manual is incorrect, unfortunately. The part about warming up, etc. is correct, but the reading will be too low on the dipstick if you take the reading on the sidestand. Our apologies again, but we will have correct information out in everyone's hands soon.As I said, there will be a bulletin going out. |

For what its worth. My procedure for almost any bike. After any extended ride; Park it, put it up on stands, take off riding gear (takes about three minutes)and lets oil settle, check oil. Almost always accurate. Go get a beer and relax, your ready for the next ride. Before next ride; inspection like aircraft, ride, repeat. Works for me. Stay safe, Bob |

HINT: Make CERTAIN the dealers are made aware of it. For instance, have the service tech sign-off, acknowledge or somehow confirm receipt of the info.
There seems to be some "oh, we didn't know" going on among dealers. I don't know if it's a transmitting or receiving problem.
