Has anyone here used scavenging from exhaust to draw a vacuum in the crankcase. Will this inhibit the oil pump from working properly? Joe |

That's not really a viable alternative for a street bike. Besides problems getting it to work at all engine speeds and conditions, there is the issue of having oil mist entering the exhaust tract. It can get really messy really quickly. The oil pump is positive displacement, so it shouldn't care one way or the other, though altering the dynamics of the oiling system may affect how oil is moving inside the engine, which is what I think you really are wondering. |

Blake My primary concern was the scavenging section of the oil pump losing efficiency and allowing excess oil to remain in crankcase. I was looking for improved ring sealing in the upper rpm's and better control of spew during high rpm operation. Thanks Blake just bouncing ideas off the board. Joe |

Your profile indicates that two of your Buells are 1998 or later. Your 1996 S1 could benefit from the 1998 oil pump, which does reportedly provide improved scavenging. If you install one, plug the oil drain in the gearcase. The 1998 pump doesn't need it. |

Thanks Blake I installed the newer pump on the 96 with the 1250 kit but don't remember plugging the oil drain in the gear cases. Joe |
