Will switch to aftermarket exhaust allow for a little higher ground clearance? |

Not really, they all mount UNDER the bike. You might get a minimal amount of added clearance. But, nothing major I don't think. |

Helps to know what bike you are on. There are some ways around the clearance issue, none of them cheap, none of them easy. You can lift the bikes suspension front and rear... or you can go to a custom exhaust. You will have to remember that the exhaust is mounted to the motor, and that is rubber mounted, you cant hard mount the new exhaust to the bike, you will have vibration issues. There is a company out of New England that is doing under the tail exhaust (1300) but it solves the problem. And the reason I need ground clearance ?

I just moved into a house that has a steep driveway and high berm on road, so clearance is an issue. I have been looking to trade my Sportster 1200C for a 12bss. The Sportster touches down going over the hump. (Sickening sound) The clearance for each bike is about the same. Lots of variables I suppose, weight, length, angle of entry onto driveway. I was just hoping to get a wee bit more clearance. |

You could go to the tt shocks and springs very easy on that bike, that will get you an inch, the Uly shocks and springs will get you two inches. You might want to look at the TT set up with passenger seat and pegs as it is the same price as the SS and gets you that extra inch right out of the gate. Hope that helps. |

Why not just wheelie it up and down the driveway? That'll keep the bottom from bashing! |

Or try the Robbie Maddison thing coming out. Thanks for suggestion re: TT. |

I'd think with the Stt's higher clearance and shorter wheelbase you should be better off than with your Sporty. The only problem I have with my Stt is the right hand grip...it turns WAY too far for my wallet to support! |
