I plan to pull the trigger on a new 08 Uly come January. In addition to bags, manual, and taller screen, which seat should I get with the bike. I am 6 foot with a 33 inseam so I fit on all of the models but from what I can gather there is a preffered seat shape (flatter or more rounded) can someone tell me which year seat? |

Welcome to the group. I have a 06 Uly with the standard seat. Which is a little bit taller then the 07 and 08. I've done 500 mile days with out much problem. I also have the taller wind screen and side bags |

I just got an '07 and purchased the '06 seat at the same time. I think the '06 seat fits me better (at 6'2"--34"inseam), problem is, it doesn't fit the bike. It won't latch down in the back and doesn't seem to slide in properly. . |

Johnboy, All of the new seats require a little "management" to get it to latch the first couple of times. The pan is plastic and they are all made the same. When I bought my '06 low it was the same way, I just kinda had to bend it to get it to latch. After the first time it has been fine. |

Thanks E Tenn, I did massage it quite a bit, but no luck - perhaps a hair dryer and bending it in toward the latch might help ?? As you mentioned, upon inspection the pans are identical Serial #'s (four) seat-to-seat and all. I even thought of shimming the latch. (Message edited by johnboy777 on December 06, 2007) |

Johnboy, The hair dryer idea is a good one. Apply the heat to the cover. The issue with the new seats is the "bow" put in the base when the cover is stretched over the foam. I had the same "no fit" problem with my existing seat after some reshaping of the foam done. They "re-bowed" it when stretching the cover. It took some serious pushing on the rear to get it to latch. Once stretched, the seat now goes on easily. |

Hey George, Come to think of it, it was around 15 deg. or so outside when I was fooling around with it (perhaps the seat vinyl shrank some) - I even jumped on the bike and dove my right knee into the back end of the seat over top of the latch hook several times, as hard as I could to get it to latch... no luck, though. That had look pretty odd to the neighbors. . |

Refer to this for installing a new seat on a Uly. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/239041.html |

I think I'll place it in the oven - get it nice and malleable first - yeah, that's a good idea. . |

Make sure you leave the door open a touch if you heat it under the broiler !

Why get a new seat just yet? Put some serious miles on the 2008 seat to see if it works for you first? I love the 2008 seat - sort of has two positions scooped out, one up front for hooning around, and then a nice bucket at the rear for relaxing when cruising (or for getting tucked in low at high speeds). There are so many "best" seat shapes - but all are horses for courses - depending on height, weight, butt size... I would have thought that at 6' you would be fine on the stock 08. I'm 6'2". |

My dealer replaced a seat for me under warranty. When I pit the new one on it was also around 20 degrees. I spent a good five minutes of serious pressure getting it on. The next day I took it in to see what the mech would say. He pulled it off and it took him longer to get it on and said yep that was just how they worked the first few times. They have rebuilt a few Ulys and replaced seats before so it wasn't a off the cuff remark. I'm short but every time I ride the Uly it seems shorter so i also found an 06 seat to try. Thanks to my fellow bad webber. Unfortunately with ice snow and nutty drivers sliding around I won't have a chance to try it for awhile. Worse comes to worse and I hate it it is nice to have the extra pan to get a custom seat built off of. +1 for BigKuri - ride it before you pony up for a new seat. I'm 6'4" with 34" inseam and (naturally) I love the standard seats. The low seats are comfortable enough, but I noticed a strong tendency for them to slide me forward into the airbox. I had to keep scootching back on the seat. The full-height seats don't seem to do that to me. |
