This time I have used 0W-30 synthetic engine oil (Castrol Edge) on the XB, with ambient air temp. about 10 Celsius. So far I was using 10W-40 Castrol semi-synthetic. The 0W-30 has given a bit more acceleration, that was noticable in the mid range, and also the motor revs faster. Also the fan did not switch on, even after switching the bike off. I guess I will stay with 0W-30...... |

Are you doing any oil analysis? I don't know if you have enough oil film to protect the bearings? I had been interested in going down to 10w40 year round, but am still on the fence. It didn't even cross my mind for 0w30. Very interesting. |

I do not know about analysis, but I get less valve-train sound and more power with the 0W-30. I guess that a good full synthetic oil will have enough film for the bearings. But since the HD engine uses ball-bearings, no much need for a film. |

Careful, I was using Castrol 5W50 for a while, and my XB drank it at an alarming rate. Going back to true 20w50 and it stopped. |

For sure, the oil consumption with 0W-30 is higher. But the performance greater, so it just needs checking the oil sooner. |
