Spec. Tours usually last about 1 hour so getting there at 3 would be fine. That gives me time to take you all around the ship and work around the regular tours that will be going on. If we start around 3 then we should finish around 4 and be ready for the bang. So 3 families around 3 then? |

Dum-dee-dum-dee-dum.....I'm waiting for the Snap-On dude to arrive here with a ring expander.I don't want to risk warping or breaking my new rings that i need to install/remove/install a few times.. |

Mmmmmm i love the taste and smell of new Snap-On tools.I also got a bunch of special "gaging clearance" waxes this week and am doing clearance checks today. Then i'll need the corrected base gasket for my head/piston combination which i'll get next week.Wow,this is like my own personal blog. So what are the other NEBO guys' building? Anything? Is anyone else left HERE? Eric? Jim? What happened? |

Awaiting an ECM remap, once Eric gets up to speed on his new software. Oh. and I need to wrap my Micron headers. Did I mention I'm running a Micron now? I did? Oh... OK. Nate- An old Bronco is WAY cooler than the monster truck you roll in now. Greg- was that english you were speaking? "gaging-clearance-wax-checks-base-piston kasjdfh-aklsdjfb-isdfh." Cause I couldn't tell. Not quite the mechanic. Yet. |

Scott. sticky wax,in variable thickness.Made to be stuck to the crown of the new piston. Then, you rotate the engine and "Squish" the wax between the piston and head. Then you disassemble the cylinder, remove the wax, measure the deformed wax's thickness, then adjust the gasket(shim) thickness BELOW the cylinder to achieve 0.95/1.05mm clearance between the piston and head. This makes the most compression ratio and makes BOTH cylinders EQUAL.Then you repeat, only between the piston and valves just to check for minimum clearance between the piston and valve. But the valve pockets (supposedly) are already cut for the higher lift cams already installed in the newly ported heads. But if that clearance WERE too small, then the piston valve pocket gets re-cut deeper.Easier to perform these checks/adjustments now than to discover upon initial startup that these were INTERFERENCE...KA-BOOM! Then..the cams are woodruff keyed and the intake valves are being deviated by 4-8 degrees advanced from nominal to make even MORE power. The cams are going to be "degreed" I spent most of Saturday with the Snap-On dealer and also making a modified "Torque Adapter" to assist torquing the heads down |

Then..the cams.... Hey Greg, I assume you meant to say that you are going to degree the cams in and then perform the measurement? Or is this motor supposed to be free clearance and you are going to check them at max lift? |

Scott, you're correct I hate that.Kyle at BCM pointed out that(by the book) i'd need to perform "that" check twice.I DID purchase enough to DO it twice but do i REALLY need to do valve to piston the second time?? the clearance is supposed to be 2mm min. |

Scotty, sorry I couldn't get it done this weekend....my back is hurtin BIG TIME, Old car crash injury (rear ended) that has not bothered me in awhile, till now anyways. I kinda felt it coming on after working out, and then pulling all the x-mas stuff out of the attick did me in, must have turned just the right way.... Doctor put me on the vik's,muscle relaxers, and IB's..Hope to up and running again Top Speed in a couple more days. At least I can watch FootBall all day and not NEED to do anything.... |

Greg you should only have to do it once at the maximum advance you foresee running. Get the base gasket squared away, degree cam and measure clearance. If you end up retarding the intake cam, the clearance should grow not shrink.... |

Right now,all i can say is,THIS JOB SUCKS,checking piston to head clearance.I'm now very proficient with ring compressors and ring expanders. And there's a lot of "put it together/take it apart" in this operation....frustrating |

Well,i just finished initial testing.I've got .053" clearance Head to piston land. With the Base gasket shim at .024" i'm looking to adjust the .053" down to .040" with a thinner base shim.THen i can start all over again before moving to the valves.Sheesh........... |

Relax Greg - just know that you are working on getting it right...measure twice, cut once and don't blow it all up when you hit that magic button at start up. With all the in's and out's...just think of it as having sex with your bike...it hasn't told you 'NO' yet...right?

No problem Jim. As long as we don't have 50 unexpected family members I'll be fine. My limit is 20 unexpected family members or 5 unexpected officers from the pentagon. After that I start making stuff up about the ship just to keep myself interested. I don't have to make much up though because most of her history is unbelievable as is. Anyway........ |

Well,i'm told my bearings should be fine, and not to worry.Hmm,i'm ok with that. And i'm having special thickness base gaskets made for my engine to give maximum compression ratio My BMW,(we've decided)has to go.And soon,i'm looking for a buyer.Salvageble, but it's an old BMW(boring).Someone here in town is interested,Damnut asked for first dibs, and he's got them, but i don't want to stick it to him. This bike will be a lot of work to get back on the road.Jim? |

Hey guys - so I don't forget to give out directions... http://maps.google.com/maps?q=214+Highland+Rd,+Tiv erton,+RI+02878,+USA&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title That is the link to a google map for the tree farm (214 Highland Road, Tiverton). The marker arrow is actually a little south of where the entrance is. Change the view to Satellite and you'll see all the trees to the right (east) of the marker. Look at all the trees and you'll see the 'roads' in the farm. Follow the road on the north side of the trees and you'll see the entrance is after the first house after Highland Court You will see a sign on the left side (coming from Main Rd) - park in the grass/gravel field before getting to the x-mass trees. Then it's all walking - either start browsing through the trees or take a right and head to the barn first. We are open 10-4 Saturday and Sunday. I'll be there both days this weekend. See some of you then. |

Jp,do you still have an adequate supply of good trees? Were they mostly tagged already? Will we be able to get two good trees? Thanks Jim.I can use the space occupied by the BMW.And i can't maintain any more bikes. |

Sorry guys...only 4,000 trees left to pick from... We also no longer tag the trees - cut and carry the same day. So any tree you see standing is available. Don't worry about all the BIG trees...we cut them down and then cut to size if it's the 'perfect tree' but just a bit to tall. |
