so how much lighter are the wheels on an RR compared to an xb? as far as i understand the 1125 wheels are exactly the same as the xb's. is it just the front wheel on an RR that is lighter, or both? i am probably going to change wheels on the 1125 anyway, so you know what i am thinking. |

Although I don't know how much lighter the RR wheels are, I know that they're both made of forged magnesium. Magnesium is quite a bit lighter. I think you'll need a race license to buy them? |

Maybe not a race license, but I'm sure an inheritance wouldn't hurt... |

It will fit BUT Think about road hazards. The XBRR wheels were designed to be light as possible and for a smooth track, Which means they may not face a pot hole or large rock with the same force and tenasity a standard XB wheel would. IE look at the Uly wheels, they are more beefed up than a standard XB wheel... |

From Buell: "XBRR six-spoke magnesium wheels weigh 33 percent less than standard XB wheels." |

BTW, the RR wheels are not forged mag, but sandcast mag.

The sand-cast comment raises a question - are the 1125 wheels rough-coated in finish only, or are they are rougher-cast wheel? I love the Diamond Blue - it did a great job of hiding all the brake dust the ZTL2 creates. And since I'm a guy who doesn't like to clean stuff (have a Wrangler I've owned for over 2 years, hasn't seen a garden hose or carwash yet)...I like the dirt hiding properties of that finish! |

Yes, the BST CF wheels are the lightest available, but how are you gonna' fit the ZTL brake? |

Right, No rice and rfisch, it's the whole unsprung weight package you have to buy. Wildly expensive carbon fiber wheel plus two discs mounted on carriers plus attachment hardware, plus two calipers filled with fluid and hardware, plus 1/2 weight of two sets of hoses filled with fluid, plus double sets of mounts on fork lowers will weigh more than the stock affordable easy to service, durable ZTL wheel/brake/fork lowers. |

How about a CF ZTL wheel, then? |

Nothing walked into. Yep, CF ZTL would be lighter and more expensive. But such wheels don't exist. But it's OK, we win without the expense. Really, it's OK that the other guys have to spend money. Don't feel guilty when you tell your friend that your stock set up weighs less than his new $3500 trick front and wheel brake set-up. It's OK. These are adult choices! |

lol, yep i know, but its still fun. and there is always a way to make something light even lighter. although the stuff we are talking about is way out of the cash range im willing to throw at this thing. well...... atleast on this particular subject |

Just out of curiosity, what is the weight of a loaded ZTL front wheel, without tire: rim, rotor, buttons, bearings, and caliper? Any comparison to the "competition", or maybe less prejudicially...what is their weight for wheel, rotor(s), bearings, caliper(s)? Since I can't get my parts dept. to buy a setup for display...("hey, hold this and think about how well it's gonna handle"). |

I can get that for you on Monday. It's a shocking difference, really a lot. It'll be something like 16 lbs vs 22lbs is my guess. |

Ahhh... but if all those Ducatti owners are going to be throwing money away anyway, wouldn't it be entertaining to see them putting stock Buell calipers (though perhaps with customer carbon fiber rims) on their $25k 1098R's? It'd be worth creating some tooling for some custom "conversion kits" to intentionally leak to the aftermarket... just for the entertainment factor of seeing it get popular! Kind of like the "revolutionary underslung exhuasts" on the new Suzuki's.... It makes me smile every time I see one. |
