Dammit ! stopped to open a gate, (on assfalt)slight downhill slope, (to the front & left of the bike) with the motor running(these things DO vibrate) put the kickstand down and got 2 steps aways and my M/C was on the ground !!! i was "rewarded" with 1 broken PAZZO lever,1 bent & scratched NAPOLEON mirror,bent shifter ,torn shifter rubber, broken "passing" lightswitch button, scratched frame puck,scratched oil cooler scoop, and scuffed rear axle slider. dammit,dammit, dammit !!! well the frame & axle sliders did their jobs. Moral of this rant is = DON'T LEAVE YOUR BUELL RUNNING ON THE KICKSTAND on a hard downhill surface! (no matter how "slight" the slope may be) FACK ! |

Happened to me too--but guess what it was my fault, not the bike's. You didn't have the bike pulled back on the kickstand. It was precariously perched on the stand and it rolled forward on the slight slope. yes, the vibes helped it, but it is avoidable. I leave my bike warming up in the front driveway pointed on a slight downhill every time I leave the house. Hundreds of times with no problems. Human error was the problem in my case and your case. |

Sorry to hear it, happened to me the third day I owned my bike. Broke the foot peg, blinker, and clutch lever. Someone posted That Buell are like little kids, want attention all the time, turn your back and they'll throw themselves on the ground to get it! |

I think Buell is starting to take note as the 1125r seems to have a much more stable kickstand setup--not too mention much less vibration as well (and it is a piece of art compared the the jap kickstand "rods"). It would take a real special effort to get an 1125r to fall off the kickstand. |

Sorry about your drop. But it's just a drop so it's all fixable. Be thankful for that. In any case, you should never leave your bike unattended with the motor running. It doesn't matter whether it's a Buell or a smooth Japanese in-line for. Just shut the motor off. That's what electric starters are for. |

What year is your Buell, Cycleaddict? I'm just curious as to which kickstand design you have. I try not to ever let my bike idle on a downslope. I even hate parking on a downslope because of the spring loaded kickstand. I don't have a problem with letting it idle on a slight incline like my driveway, though. |

She's an '03 .. oh, i had heard this could happen.... (but just not to me) ! u-no ! i'm just a little pissed still. but on the good side of things the protection devices did their jobs ! & i learned a valuble lesson..... i won't turn my back on her ever again !!!! just trying to help anybody else not to experiance the same fate !!(ohh... that happens to OTHER people not me ! u-no ) |

This got me thinking. My old man rides a big scooter (Honda reflex 250). It has an honest to goodness parking brake. How difficult would it be to have a brake lever that could be locked in pulled in position? It would be very handy for situations like this. |

Coporatemonkey, BMX bikes used to have "lockable" brake levers. They functioned just like normal and due to their design, they were nearly impossible to activate with one hand. To activate them, u pulled the lever in like normal and then pushed a spring loaded button down on top of the lever (with the opposite hand) and viola, locked brake. Pull the lever again and the brake "unlocked" as the spring loaded button popped back up. Pretty simple idea and 99% fool proof... It would add a few ounces of weight though. |

4 wheelers have a parking brake also , but.... if i had a parking brake, i probably would'nt use it !! (MY bike ain't gonna fall .) good idea though !!! |

Mine fell over more than once. You would think I'd learn.. Fall no more, this mod will make your sidestand stay up or down, without the dangle.

Today my 3 week old bike fell over and I went with it! I had just pulled up to the bank, dropped the stand and started to roll it back while getting off, I was in a hurry, and over WE went. At least I was under my baby and helped to minimize the damage. I lost the ball at he end of my clutch lever, broke the feeler off the bottom of my peg, broke the smoke cover on the front signal and a few small scrapes. Oh well, at least I'm not alone, although I wish I had been at the bank. Time for a beer! |

Mine almost fell a few weeks ago. I got the new upgraded kit from American Sport Bike. It fixed my problem. Lucky for me my bro from work was there to put my bent kick stand in my back-pack. The spring is fun to reattach though. Sorry to hear about the trouble. |

LOL! I did the same thing last year Henry. Pulled up in the middle of a car show, flipped the kickstand down like I was cool or something, and proceeded to be tossed to the ground as I dismounted and my half-unfolded stand gave way. Talk about embarrassed! Busted peg, busted shifter, bent clutch, scuffed mirror. Had to get my in-laws to carry me to Home Depot to find some bits for rigging the peg and shifter so I could ride back home. I actually carry spare pegs in my tool bag now! ~SM |

Spare Peg....great Idea! We were out on a Poker Run, met a new Bueller who decided to join us. After the Poker Run, we put out bikes in the Bike Show (just for fun) The new guy, parking his next to mine, leaned over to look through my plastic, and once he did, over it went. Good news, the bike show was across the street from South Side HD, the bad news, $50.00 for a new shift lever just to get home. I think I'll add one in my little bag of tricks, you never know when you'll need one. |

I haven't totaled up my parts needed yet, but it doesn't look like it will be too costly. At least it was just my pride that was injured. Hearing these stories from all of you and the guys I work with, plus my Dad and Grandpa, make it easier to just laugh it off. |
