06 Uly, 15k miles. I just got the bike back from the dealer as I had the stator replaced under warranty. When riding the bike and going through the gears, upon deceleration, if I pull in on the clutch; the bike will continue to stay at an rmp consistant with the speed of the bike. It acts kinda like a speed sensor on a standard shift truck. Only after I come to a complete stop will the idle drop back down to 1100 or so. One time tonight on the way home I had to brake pretty hard to stop at a quick change light and it took a full 2 seconds for the bike to idle back down to normal. What could this be? Intake gaskets? back story, I have a cut up airbox mod and a spec ops pipe and never had a tps reset, but this is the first time the bike has acted this way in about 2k miles since i put on the pipe. | ||

Sounds like the idle is set to high. Try closer to 950-1000 May need a tps reset as well. | ||

Try the idle adjustment and TPS reset, but it does sound similar to what others have experienced with intake leaks. I think someone recommended spraying WD-40 at the outside of the intake track to check for intake leaks. Don't quote me on this 'cause sometimes the crack kicks in and I don't remember good. | ||

Look at the routing of the throttle cable. My guess is that the cable is sticking. Had this on the wifes XB9S. | ||

I had this same thing happen to me when I adjusted the idle with a cold engine. I'll try to find the thread that solved my problem. It didn't need a TPS reset to correct it. I had to ride at a constant 3500 rpm for about 5 miles or so. | ||

Andrejs2112, Thanks for the thread, I remember reading the thread when you posted it a while ago. I will do the 5th/55mph thing on the way to the dealer in the morning. Hey Micah, Running at 55mph in 5th may not get the revs up enough. Not sure on that, but it might be worth running at somewhere slightly over 3,000 rpm to be safely in the closed-loop zone. I second the suggestion on checking idle speed and lowering it just a notch if possible while still keeping it within the specified range. The throttle plate does wear-in with use, especially in the first 10,000 miles, so a TPS reset sure isn't a bad idea. Let us know what you find. | ||

Slowride, take it back to the dealer! They shouldn't ever let it leave their place with the motorcycle NOT running properly! Don't pay any attention to those that say the 2006 Ulysses has problems! I have just over 16,000 miles on mine and I've only had to replace the rear tire at 10,000 miles and the rear brake pads at just over 15,000 miles. mine has been a trouble-free fun motorcycle to ride! | ||

Update!!! I took the advice of the fine people here and took the bike on a run back to the dealer. It is about 15 miles, all highway and I needed to pick up my hot air routers for the side of the uly and the new bag latches as they had made it in on Friday. I rode the miles at or slightly above 3k rpm's or 65-68 mph. Upon reaching the dealer, I was still seeing high revs (1800-2200) until I slowed to under 10mph. I also noticed that my shifter lever seal was leaking oil. I made contact with the service manager and told him I had picked it up on Thursday from having the stator replaced under warranty and it was really running bad now and I mentioned the oil leak. Bare in mind it is Saturday at around 3:30pm in Dallas, TX at one of the busiest dealers in the area. The service manager walked me back to the Buell tech and let me explain the problem. Interesting to note that the Buell tech had closed up his bench and lift and was on the way out too. So anyway, I told him what the masses at BW had summized and about the oil leak. He asked me to bring the bike in and he did a TPS reset on the floor of the shop. He then replaced the oil seal while I watched. Apparantly, the oil seal was one size to small.... Hmmmmm???? Anyway, he took it out for a spin and brought it back and said "fixed!" No charge and just another page added to the list. I am up to 13 pages on the service screen at the dealer now. I am not sure whether to be proud of that or not. Ya know.... I never knew how bad my bike was running until I rode it home from the dealer. It was silky smooth on the road and the idle was running perfectly at 1050. At idle it used to jump around a bit, quite a bit actually, now it is dead on the money and barely moves. It is like riding a new bike. I am very pleased. btw, for good measure I ordered a xb12x service manual and some frame paint. I am prepping for the end of my warranty on 4/08. I had my bike serviced at the 1K interval. it just would not run as well as before I took it in. I took it back and it ran a little better. i was on this web site getting info and did the run at 3k rpm which helped a little more. i got accustomed to the way it ran. The fiance got a Scg and I realized how much better her bike new ran than mine with 5k miles. I decided then and there to get the tps software and dongle from ameerican Sport bike ( figured with two buells now the purchase price would be more easily justified). I followed Al's directions and also called him (he was very helpful),I did the 1k tps reset on fiance' bike and also did mine. Her bike had developed a problem of almost stalling when starting from a stop before the reset problem cured on hers. Now the Uly runs like it did when new except I think better because it is broken in better. My hunch is that the dealer did not make sure the thottle was completly closed when he did the reset both times. O well I think the sofware and hardware is money well spent. | ||

PSO, Thanks for the info, I decided on the next pay check to call Al to get the dongle and software as well. I like my dealer, but I only have until then end of March 2008 for the factory warranty. I have used the warranty more than on any car, truck, boat or bike I have ever owned. As I mentioned in the thread above, I ordered the service manual and I plan on being my own tech when the warranty is up. | ||

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that the Buell Tech reset the TPS with my back warmed up and hot. I think I read somewhere that make a difference. Anyway, It really is like riding a new bike. Simply Amazing. |
