I was thinking about this subject yesterday as I rode to work in the pouring rain on my XB12Ss. Why is it that ALL winter motorcycling gloves are of a gauntlet design? Why doesn't anyone make a warm winter motorcycle glove WITHOUT the gauntlet? I was wearing my trusty Aerostich Roadcrafter suit which was doing its job of keeping me dry. My Aerostich Kanetsu electric vest was doing its job of keeping me warm, and my Aerostich Combat Lite boots were keeping my feet dry and toasty (yeah, I'm a living/breathing Aerostich catalog). I was wearing a pair of Olympia winter gauntlets, leather with a Goretex laminate and Thinsulate insulation. Everything was fine until the rain water started running down my arms. The gauntlets then acted like a funnel, catching ALL of that water and directing it down into the gloves. In no time at all I had two leather BAGS OF ICE COLD WATER wrapped around my hands. Since the gloves are waterproof, that means they don't let water OUT either! They're going to take DAYS to dry out. The way I figure it, the ONLY way a gauntlet glove makes any sense is if you have ape hangers that raise your hands above your shoulders. |

I love gauntlets in the cold because they keep cold air from going in your sleeves. I see your point with them in the wet though. |

Put the gauntlets up inside the sleeves and zip the suit over them. |

Nate, The gauntlets are also insulated and far too thick to fit under the Roadcrafter's sleeves. Now, if the gauntlets were NOT insulated, but simply waterproof material, that WOULD work. OR, an inner gauntlet that went under the sleeve and an outer gauntlet that went OVER. Okay, there's a free idea to steal! Please, someone make that glove and I promise to buy them! |

It looks like the idea is already being used... http://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/Picts/Stock_2510000 00001.gif I don't know anything about these gloves. |
