Hello all,

After finally getting a website up, and getting sponsorship. I would like to know what you guys think of my site and the LED tail lamp assemblies for your XB or 1125R.

XB Lights
Specializing in Custom LED tail lamp assemblies

www.xblights.com

So please check it out and give me some feedback.

P.S. the photos on the site are just an idea of how bright they really are. Its next to impossible to capture the full effect with a camera.

THANKS ALL!

Question: Do you have one that is just a stop light and 2 turn signals? Maybe it's on your site & I just missed it.

It's about freaking time.

Nice job on the web page.

I'll take 1 option three for a Uly please.

Has to be bright. Not just brighter than a burnt out light bright. I need the kinda bright, that the cager behind me will be sucking on excedrin the whole time he is behind me bright.

Just think of the deathray backwards kinda bright.

Yes, I want to punish them for being too close.

I'd like to have some led based indicator lights. I can make the non-Buell specific ones work, but they don't look as good as ones that would be specific to our models.

It is definetely bright enough to make cagers suck excedrin. My Xblights throws red light back about 20-25 feet with just the runnings lights. Brake light throws off more light than a Buell low beam!! +1 to Robert at XBlights.com

-Will do.
I hope it doesn't take too long, but i'll start getting down and dirty once the housings get in! can't wait!!!!

Ft_bstrd

-I see!
I really like the turn signals as a brake light!
I need to look into seeing if there are any distributors out there who can sell me empty turn signals. meaning just the case and lens, so I can do my own thing for the internals. the Possibilities are endless!!
I'd be like a kid in a candy store!
Or I guess I could gut the internals of any signal and re-do it how i'd like or how anyone would like it with dual circuits. Even get the running lights for the fronts.
HHmmmm............

When I get my new fangled tail light, you can have my blinkers.

In the interest of new product development and bueller's everywhere.

Robert,
Welcome aboard! Now we know why you were ordering all those tail light lenses! Thanks for sending that defective one back, we've never seen one bubbled like that.

Some tech questions, if you don't mind.

1) What PCB technology used- one sided, two sided, thermal plane, plated through holes, soldermask, etc?

2) What voltage regulation/ transient protection circuitry is employed?

3) Thermal design- the biggest issue with large count high wattage LEDs is the serious amount of power dissipated in a small area. Thermal expansion due to the heat can wreak havoc on solder joints if not properly dealt with, and the devices themselves can lose a huge amount of reliability if there aren't proper cooling paths in place. What wattage LEDs are these?

4) They look like the good 4 pin LEDs,which ar much better for vibration resistance when properly mounted. True?

My gig prior to leaving the corporate world behind was Electronics packaging, the above stuff was what I did for many years. Thermal management was a big part of that, and shock/vibration design figured heavily into it as well. So I naturally question these things when I see things like this.

Al

- That would be awesome! I'm especially excited about the Uly assembly, can not wait to get that bad boy in! do you know if Andy shipped it out yesterday?

Al_lighton
-man your killing me here, making me think too hard. You darn electronics gurus! haha
and Thanks for helping me out with the Lens. It was odd. (must have been a friday at 5 o'clock build)

currently I build each unit by hand.
using IC-Spacing Perfboard, cut to fit each assembly. As well, I solder each joint by hand. Yes, it is a hand killer!!

I have looked into getting multiple circuit PCB, but since
#1 i'm small time right now and
#2 each unit can be customized how ever the buyer my want
The pre-printed boards would not work too well. But I will say, if the orders start rolling in like crazy for a certain option or design, that is with out a doubt the route I would take.

I'll be honest with the voltage regulation, it is straight battery power.
When I was testing the bikes electrical system, I couldn't get any serious spikes, so i left it at that. And I guess I'll just keep the fingers crossed that lightning doesn't hit my lightning while riding :-). If it does, there will be bigger issues then the tail light.

LED's
DC forward current Max 70ma
power dissipation 221mw
forward voltage max 2.67v

As far as these 4-prong LED's they are far better then 2-prong in so many ways.
And so much brighter. as well as secure once mounted.

ahhh.... out of breath now!!!

yep it has hit a high approx 7 weeks ago of 81 cents US but been as low as 51 cents US but that was a couple of years ago so when buying i have to consider the exchange plus freight
which can be a real killer

Sounds like us in the States when we consider buying parts from the UK and Europe.

The US $ is pretty weak right now so I'm sure Matt at Trojan and Jens at Hillbilly haven't had
as much trans-Atlantic trade as they'd like either.
