Hey...
Is a Dyno jet PC11 power commander worth running with the race Ecm on my 2000 S3T?
It has a real dead spot from idle to 1500 rpm or so...Then goes like hell...
I need to remedy this flat spot as my wife rides this bike and im scared she will fall over every time she takes off...
It kinda dies and then over boogies...
I just had the TPS reset and the bike only has 800 miles on it...
Race Ecm, pipe/muffler and air cleaner
Your views please!
Thx..hankb

I had a friend that used a power commander and he had nothing but trouble. He ended up setting all the values to zero just to get it to run. Effectively this made the power commander non functional on his bike. Supposedly he even tried another one and he had the same deal.....Maybe it was some other problem but nothing he or a certified mechanic did would make it work right.

Try checking for intake leaks and or an unplugged vacume port (CA carbon cannister port).

With all that said, none of the tube-frame Buells I have ridden run really well until you get them above 2K RPM but none of them stumbled as bad as you say yours is doing so something is wrong.

I wouldn't waste my money on a power commander though......

You should have no problems with your race brain.
I wouldn't bother with the Power commander.
Look for intake and exhaust leaks first.
My X1 pulls OK down low with the loud pipe on it.
With the stock pipe, it feels like it has a cork in it on the normal
operating range but down low, it feels better than the loud one.

If none of the physical checks (vacuum lines, intake seals, etc) produce any results, pull your TPS and hook it to a needle-display VOM and check for resistance as you rotate the axle. You should see a clean needle sweep as you rotate, with no jumps or hitches (think "volume knob" because that's basically what a TPS is). It sounds to me like you have a dead spot in the sensor...at least, that's the symptom I always get out of my turbo Dodge cars when they have a flat spot : )

Thx guys..
I saw one for sale and wondered..
Guess i should pull it apart and check for seal leaks etc...
Can I remove/unhook the TPS and o2 sensor without having to get the ECM reset again?
I no if I unplug the ECM its reset time, but what about the sensors...?
Also, i may remove the race exhaust and put the stock header on with a supertrapp muffler...We find it quite loud as is with the race pipe...Anyone no of a good used trapp for sale for the S3?
Anyone looking for an as new Race exhaust...800 miles use?

You can take it off as long as you don't unplug it. Just back probe the connector. You can also do right on the bike.

Are you guys sure about unplugging the ECM.
I was under the impression the the TPS vlaue was stored in NVRAM and was not effected by power loss.
If that's not the case, changing the battery would require a TPS reset.
Think I need to call Al at American Sport Bike on this one as I can't remember for sure.

I agree... Disconnecting power or removing the ECM should not require a TPS reset. I haven't reset the TPS on my '99 S3 in 6 years and I disconnect the battery for winter storage every year.

The Race ECM is programmed for the Race Muffler. You change the muffler and you'll need to change the tuning. I agree with everyone... Look for an air leak, chaffed wire or a bad TPS. I have the Race system on my '99 S3 and the bike runs great. Yours can too!!

Unhooking the battery or the pcm will not screw the tps setting. You will have to unhook the tps with thew pcm powered up to have a problem.

Numb....So yer sayin I can "unhook" the battery, then remove my TPS or 02 sensor, clean my intake/check seals etc, test my tps & 02 sensor, Re-install everything, "rehook" my battery and all is still kewl and good ta go?.............If so.... the dealers are scamin Us for bucks all the time by saying they are resetting the tps in the ecm????

The TPS setting is stored on the ECM. It's OK to unplug the TPS from the cable.

I took the Throttle Body all the way off, cleaned it, replaced the plug on the vacuum fitting (CA carbon canister,) and checked the TPS with a meter like Ratbuell suggests. Just don't remove the TPS from the throttle body. If you do, then you'll need to reset the TPS.

When you reinstall the throttle body, replace the gasket to the manifold, lube the throttle cables and adjust them.

Good luck!

The only problem you will have is if you change the "register" of the TPS on the throttle body.
By that I mean moving it relative to the shaft (rotating it one way or the other).
This will change the resistance value (voltage really) that is sent to the ECM.
The ECM wil think the throttle is closed but it really isn't (or open when it's not, depending on the direction the TPS was rotated.).
It only take a tiny bit of rotation to mess things up.

As mentioned above, the ECM and battery can be removed with no TPS reset needed.
In fact, some have replaced the stock ECM with the race version just to see if the TPS settingis "close enough" and upon finding out it's not, put the stock ECM back in place.
Nothing has changed so the bike runs the same as before the R&R.

The PC is junk. It will not make an appreciable difference over a race ecm. I sold mine and am glad I did. The best way to optimize your bike is with a Direct Link system and lots of dyno time. It is cost prohibitive for a couple of horsepower. Pick your favorite intake, muffler or exhaust system, put a race ecm on it and reset the TPS and enjoy. It's all you need. Don't throw away money on hype. If you want to make some serious power, call Aaron Wilson at NHRS.

Thx Guys...Im just tryin to get it to run good..No hesitates etc...My first step is to super clean the intake and check seals etc....This bike has sat most of its life and has less than 800 miles...Our Cdn Gas really sucks and goes stale real fast...
I tried spankin it a few times, but all it does is cry...Hb
