Looking at mine, it sure looked like it would fit. Worst case I'd have to move the inner fender slightly, but there was lots of space between the tire and the swingarm. In any event, I put the 600 Blast short block onto the classified section. I've got some other leftover Blast race parts I'll be selling separately, including the Red Shift 585 cams and a set of brand new roller rocker arms. |

BIG THANKS to Aaron for posting that short block here & giving us 1st shot at it before it goes e-bay.Much nicer than the "Hey, I just put my muffler bearings on e-bay,Good luck" I usually see!Makes me feel like family-and for that price we must be! Been drooling for days, too bad I'm going on vacation & just spent $400 on rearsets!($broke$).GearheadErikO

Aaron, meaning no disrespect, but on every stock Blast swingarm I've seen. There is only about 10mm between the stock size 120/80-16 tire and the tab that is welded for the lower shock mount. I've read much about this. It's not the side to side clearance, but the distance at the front of the swingarm where tire height would contact it. Can I ask what year Blast you were measuring from, and was the swingarm altered any? I'd be very eager and pleased to find that this 130/80 tire would fit. |

Ah, hell, you can disrespect me all you want, everyone else does I'll go look again next time I'm near a Blast. I checked this all out and bought the tire a long time ago. I don't even have a Blast anymore! |

Fairwether, Theoretically a 130/80-16 tire would present an additional 8mm of tire radius compared to a 120/80-16. |

I looked for that size Barracuda 130/80-16 Tire on the web and only see it in 130/90-16. Do they still make the 130/80-16 Tire? It seems like it should have just enough clearance. My rear tire is just about at the baloney-skin level, so I wouldn't mind a little more width |

Blake, my 10mm was a rough estimate. I cannot even fit my pinkie finger in the space between the tire and that shock tab on the swing arm. And it's been proven many times that the Dunlop 130/80 that comes standard on the current Ninja 250R will contact that tab while installing. But I'm curious as to whether the cheng shin tire has different specs and/or a smaller running diameter. And to answer Mx114g question, there are TWO different Barracuda tires made by Cheng Shin. And the one that Aaron has is still in production in size 130/80-16 and is V rated. This is the first instance I've read on line where someone has bought this brand tire and has or has not fit it to an unmodified swingarm. So I'm very eager to hear verdict. |

FYI-It is the Cheng Shin Barracuda C6000 tire that is in question and made in size 130/80-16

I took a look at a Blast in the shop today (Ray's) and there's a good half inch of clearance there. I think a 130/80, assuming it's only 8mm more radius, should fit fine. Plus it looks like a few whacks with a hammer could buy a person another quarter inch. (lol - Been there - done that - Moderator;0)) edited by ezblast on June 27, 2003 |

Maybe I'm coming in late on this, I didn't bother reading the other posts prior to this page, but in my conversations with my salesman here in Yuma and one of the mechanics, both of whom own and ride Blasts, they said the Cheng Shin was a piece of crap. Has anybody here used one? |

I've used Cheng-Shins and Kendas on my Sportster, and they work fine. I think that is just anti Chinese rumblings. Then again, some compounds of some manufacturers don't work worth a crap on certain motorcycles. BTW, Maxxis are a sub-company of Cheng-Shin and my dirt bike buddies seem to like them. To answer your question, I haven't run those particular tires on the Blast, have they? James |

No I don't think they have on the Blast, they said they've seen them on other bikes and they didn't do very well. I'd have to talk to them again to get all the specifics. Evidently their experience with having to replace them on other bikes is what made them come to the decision that they were "crap". I'd be interested to know if anyone has tried them on a Blast and how well they performed, durability, etc.. |

I've heard from a local dealership that the Cheng Shins do not have as high a quality control as other tires, and therefore are more difficult to balance. Granted, he *could* have been tryig to sell me a more expensive tire, ..... |

no rockbiter1 he's correct Cheng Shins are at best hit or miss and are very greasy feeling until the warm up. Many motorcycles and scooters here in Japan come stock with Cheng Shin's and everyone I've talked to has agreed that replacing their tires has greatly improved their handling...of course I'm stuck with Cheng Shins on my Scooter so maybe I'm biased (the wife wants big bore before tires, I'm still trying to wrap my head around that concept). And I've ridden Maxxis tires on my 24" BMX bike...I'm not a fan but then I've been a dedicated COMP 3 until found Primo's but that's a personal thing. |

My two cents worth: Had Cheng Chin tires that appeared to be a Michelin knock-off on my Gold Wing (1975 undressed) and on my Pacific Coast. I was very happy with them, less rain groove wobble than my Dunlops before them, much less expensive. No experience with them on a Blast. |

Anyone have a left headlight bracket they no longer need? I need to replace one that was modified for a windshield. A previous owner cut the fly screen tabs off so the windshield would fit. My daughter wants the flyscreen back on. If not, Dave S will be getting a call.... Neat little bike these Blasts. Looks like I'm gonna have another forum to keep up on! Thanks! BluzM2, I may have one that you can have...it's a tad bent up, but nothing a vise can't fix. I'll check when I get home and see if I still have it laying around somewhere for you. Bryan |

Hey, Brad! Welcome to the Dark Side. Hows the bike running? I haven't seen it at the shop, lately, so maybe it's doing o.k. I'm probably a little biased, but I think the Blast is a very fun bike, and I wish your daughter much happiness with hers. I'm really happy with the mods I've made, it zips around very nicely, now. Let me know if you have any questions, or if there's anything I can help with. Lou |

Lou, Thanks for the "Dark side" welcome! I've always kind of liked the little Buell, they are a fun bike. Definate change from the big tube framers. My M2 is running great! It only sees shop time for warranty or recall work. Not much of either has been needed. The Blast will remain stock for a while. My daughter needs to get proficient before I start messing around with it. Even then I'll probably just change the pipe and intake. Brad

Ed, cool site. The big brown truck we all love to see showed up at the house yesterday with not one but two box's for me. In box #1 was the blast engine. I should have it ready sometime next month (I hope). In box #2 was my springs (part #3100) and rear shock from Works Performance Products. The fork springs went in with out a problem. I will write a how to in the "Blast Specifics - procedures, and ideas on assisting procedures". Now on to the rear shock. The shock is a work of art. The shock is custom built per rider. This took a little time to install due to the works shock being fatter plus the remote reservoir has to be mounted some where. I will write a how to on this also. The test ride: I rode the bike on mixed pavement from smooth to choppy. The bike felt smoother no more front end dive when you get on the brakes and the front comes off the ground shifting from 1st to 2nd due to the shock not compressing as fast as the stock shock (note that was running WFO with the stock engine). A big thanks goes out to Aaron for being such a nice guy |

I forgot this Our rear Ultrasport with adjustable rebound damping, threaded spring preload and remote reservoir are $639, with compression damping adj. they are $709(this is the one I went with). We set the shocks to rider weight, style of riding and skill level. Lead time is about 2-3 weeks. Our fork kit #3100 is $99 and is a great way to tune up the front end. With our fork kit i would suggest using the recommended fork weight from the factory, our kit works great with the stock valving. Thanks-Dave 818 701-1010 ext #30 |

Anybody got any good hints on getting the front sprocket off of an 01 blast? I priced the tools listed in the service manual - about $100 each. This would be $200 invested so I can troubleshoot a faulty neutral indicator. The nut holding on the sprocket is HUGE! I could probabally buy a socket at sears if I knew the size. |
