James, I had the same problem on my bike. At 8000 miles serious oil leakage. Solution for me, new hose and threw big tupperware air intake thing in the trash. |

Ez, just thought you'd like to know that Crossroads is working on a chopper Blast. They're actually mounting a Blast engine in a new frame. We (St. Paul HD) had another open house Saturday, and I was able to squeeze in some time to chat. Sounds interesting. |

Still Blastless after 6 weeks ... maybe one of these days. Here's what happens when a valve seat vacates the head: It's just ashame that it happened after the original Cylinder and Piston took a dump: Doubly worse is when the replacement (3rd attempt to fix) isn't machined to fit the cases and clear the pushrod tubes

At first I wasn't sure what to believe with the Cylinder/Piston failure ... supplier said install, shop said mismatched parts / poor clearances / poor materials ... you can see the gap between the two in the first pic. Now, after going through 3 sets of parts (each with issues), I'm starting to think that the first failure may actually have been bad parts ... My experience is strictly automotive, but those clearances seem awfully BIG to me ... I got an .030+ wire in there no problem WHERE THERE WASN'T ANY SCUFF/WEAR. Did I mention that the seat failure NUKED the pushrods and now I'm looking at replacing push rods, lifters and prob the cams? Spooky, I promised not to mention names until everyone has a fair chance to rectify the problems (would that be parts shipment #4 or #5?). BTW, have you seen my profile? EZ, Thanks Bro, I know you've heard your share of griping/whining from me, I do appreciate the }ear. edited by LtlBoyBuell on June 10, 2003 edited by LtlBoyBuell on June 10, 2003 |

Anyone see the Blast! in this month's Iron Horse Magazine? It has some serious body work done and 17" S-1 tires front and rear. They stretched the swing arm to get the rear tire to fit. Looks like a nice solution to the problem. Any opinions? -stuart (Going to have to buy a mag;0) - Moderator ) edited by ezblast on June 10, 2003 |

right place right time... the assistant editor of American Iron Magazine fell in love with my blast and told me that she was going to show her photos of it to the editors to see if they want to do a photoshoot. I don't know if she is asst. editor for her great travelogue approach to motorcycle writing or what, because my P3 shouldn't be compared in any way to the crossroads blast. Maybe though she'll use one of her pix in the little tail sections or something. I'll let all know when she lets me know. |

What's with the obsession with 17" wheels on the Blast? A significant portion of the Blast's funness comes from its ease of flickability - which in turn is at least partly attributable to the smaller & lighter wheel & tire combo. When you guys take a pyrometer with you to the track and find that you're able to toast the living crap outta the stock wheel tire combo - then maybe the Blast would NEED bigger stuff. Until then, I can't help but feel that bigger wheels (and their associated prerequisites) are going to cost BIG BUCKS and HURT the Blast's handling. Now, if you simply WANT bigger wheels & tires for non-go types of reasons, that's a different story. Enjoy. One guy's opinion, anyway. -Saro |

I'm with you on this one Saro - being just a bit more nimble with the smaller tires has allowed me to manuver better in the corners - I like cutting to the inside of a Duc or Beemer - I'm not giving that up just to impress the non knowing public at large. We got a 2002 Blast for my wife. She like the bike but we have had several problems. Today she could not get it started. I got it to run this evening but not right lot of carb farts not want to idle but does run good when I ride it hard. Does the bike have a problem with timing changing? |
Ezblast

No - sounds like a possible intake leak - at a high idle spray wd40 around it - if you get a change of rpms then you found your leak - the rubber boot has been known to crack upon occasion or go loose, could also be loose plug wire - a few of the 2000 and 2001 had a slight timing problem but nothing like that - just very slight detination at very low rpm. Not a problem on later models. Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ edited by ezblast on June 11, 2003 |

I think all we (I) really want is a wider rear tire 16/130-16/150.It just feels better! 17" rims just 'seems' the easiest way to get that. But,I think getting the stock rim widened would be better & more cost effective.(Credit EZ w/ making that clear to me!!) |

Theres pros here in Cali who do it professionally for a living though now they are known for other things http://www.kosman.net/ clearing the swing arm width is ok - just height problems but once you get to 150 size you can go very low profile /50 and up -so all of sudden the tire would fit - still don't see why they don't just make some better rubber for the bike - I'd be happy with some scaled down Pilots - lol - or what the Bolt runs - ya'd think?! Thanks Ezblast that is at least part of the problem I do not know if the air leak caused the carb farts or whether they caused the boot to come loose. It looks like I will have to remove the air box to get the carb back on right. This was my first posts to this list. My wife has the Blast and I ride a Sportster. I have been on the Sportster List for several years. |

I will confirm what you guys are saying. I have installed 17" wheels and inverted forks on my Blast and it is a very heavy turning bike. Someday I will post some pictures, but other than the coolness factor, there aren't too many good reasons to go through the huge effort required to do the swap. Jeff |

Five things left to do: 1)Rearsets - custom - making them myself 2)Fairing - going with the Black Vampire cafe fairing 3)signal lights - going with mini front and rear 4)Also waiting for the Wileyco exhaust so I can donate the Bub to BlastMaul 5)Fork brace - so far Crossroads Sooner or later I'll get to the cams and some head work - lol - I figure about 3 months. For a stocker she's still alot of fun and it allows me to preserve BlastVader for weekend corner carving! Works in progress - Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! Hey Jeff, inquiring mime's want to know. What did your wheel conversion run you (including front end), rough numbers. EZ, My rearsets are all drawn up, It was not an easy task to get all of the dimensions. Mine will be a lot closer to the Crossroads setup than the Banke. I'm figuring about a month, and They'll be all done (just in time for the 20th). James |
