Has anyone else who owns an 06-07 Lighting 12xbs removed the vinyl Buell stickers and had it not leave a hazy “Buell” wording mark behind? I spoke with the Buell dealer and they said the adhesive used for the vinyl stickers most likely caused a reaction with the plastic and that’s why I still have “Buell” on my air box in a faded/hazy manner. I tried a half dozen applications of Novus#2 on it to try and get it out but with no luck. Just wanted to probe the XB population to see if anyone has seen this happen or have recommendations on what to do. Factory the air box comes with stickers on and my only option rite now looks to either paint it or try and order one and hope that’s its new enough to not have the chemical reaction to place. | ||

Try Micro Mesh, available from acrylic plastic and aircraft supplys. Its a VERY (up to 6000 grit) fine sand paper that when used accordingly will leave a perfectly glossy finish. I use it when I get a scratch. You'd never know... | ||

I HAVE USED ARMOR ALL AND LET IT SOAK IN FOR A COUPLE MIN THE BUFF WITH SOFT CLOTH YOU HAVE TO KEEP THE CLOTH CLEAN OR IT WILL KEEP STREAKING GOOD LUCK | ||

I think what your actually seeing is the unfaded plastic. The rest of the plastic is faded from the sun and when you peal that sticker up it is unfaded and stands out. So I think it will depend on how long you wait to remove it. I removed it from my City after about 4 months and you can not see anything where the stickers were | ||

Punkid8888, thats what you would think. The airbox that has been exposed to the sun is still a very deep glossy black. when I pealed the stickers off the plastic i expected it to be darker black then the exposed stuff, not true. The stickers just lef a hazzy/dull black "Buell" on the air box,I think caused by the adhesive. | ||

I deal with this issue frequently de-identifying trucks. If left on for it seems, anything more than a week, my experience has shown that the adhesive does attack nearly any surface. I have peeled decals off plastics, aluminum(lacquered), painted steel, fiberglass, and wood. Even if the decals have been on a short time we have to sand the area and prime it to get a hold out for where the decals were. We recently had an aluminum box truck that we had to hydro-blast the decals off from. We stripped it to the bare aluminum and still had a bit of an issue with the lettering showing up in our new paint. The adhesives always melt the baked lacquer on the aluminum panels allowing it to penetrate the pores of the metal. I think the same thing is happening to the plastics. Call Buell to see if one is available without the decals. They may be able to pull it from the line before it gets stickered. |
