been looking at an aprilia rxv 4.5 or 5.5 to replace the old xr lately. at 70hp and 260 pounds it might just be able to replace all of my bikes! these bikes are so good they were "outlawed" for racing immediately, can you say power of the big four! rather than let someone compete who has a better design let's just push them out, gotta keep the big four happy. bet mr buell could go on about this one! |

Out-lawed from racing? the SXV dont seem to be that dominant. I saw plenty of 4.5 SXVs. having trouble keeping up with honda/yamaha/husky/ktm 450's @ the ama sumo races. and I saw plenty of 5.5 SXVs. having trouble keeping up with Husky 510 SMRs and 525 KTM's @ the ama unlimited sumo races. |

The Aprilia SXVs have a lot of trouble with traction according to all the reviews I've read. If you're spinning your tires, you're going nowhere. That said, it's a beautiful looking machine. |

The Aprilias didn't fit into existing classes at the time, they were never "outlawed". The 550's reportedly have oil pressure issues that have yet to be resolved. All the first year bikes had many serious production issues. Both are competition machines that and have the corresponding arduous maintenance schedules. They aren't doing that well in the states but Husky's and Aprilias are the dominant bikes in World Supermoto competition, with Aprilia taking the S2 title in their first year and Husqvarna having long been the dominant manufacturer. Whether Aprilia is better or not is a matter of opinion. They make more power but also carry more weight. They do require less mods to be competitive. Back to topic... |

A buddy of mine has a 4.5 SXV. He won't let me ride it because he's pretty smart... |

barker, cycle world, june 06. they "were banned from ama pro racing before they even arrived here". sorry, maybe the info was old, their status is probably different now. not looking to argue. sat on a 990 adventure, felt very large compared to my honda xr650. i bet the motor is fantastic though, the xr feels weak at high speed. |

Back on topic. Who's 990 Adventure is that? KTM of Americas. just thought it was neat. first motorcycle i've seen in the year i've worked here. i tried to see if there was a way to open it up for some pics, but it was all stapled up, no easy way to peel it open and re-close. |
