I realize that comparing bikes isn't always an apples to apples kind of thing, but in this instance it matters not. Mainly because ... well I said so.  The other night on the way home from work, I got a call from Smokescreen. His Triumph Tiger had a leaky seal. The shift shaft seal. He needed help, and I'm always willing to help a friend, so off I went. After all he had already done the hard part, chasing down the needed parts. It has a hydraulic clutch, so we had to move that out of the way. He also eliminated that it wasn't leaking by replacing the O ring. Once that was out of the way, we had to buy a T-55 (we had already bought the wrong T-60) to take off the rail that holds the switch gear, and the kick stand. That out of the way, we could now take off the chain cover, that half of it doubles as the cover for the shift shaft and inspection area (I guess that's what it's called) Once that cover was removed, there was a big reminder this bike had a Scott Oiler. Man oh man what an oily mess! Got the shift shaft seal out and replaced, and the new gasket installed and everything else put back on, I was a mess. I really appreciate the simplicity of the Buell after that. Now I realize that if the shift shaft on the Buell is no picnic to replace, I've done my share. It's just a much neater job to do on the Buell, and not having to deal with a chain mess is very much appreciated. Now like I said in the beginning I appreciate the fact that these are two different animals (my XB9S and the Tiger), the Tiger being built to go off road and built to take more abuse, but like I said also, it don't matter much, because I said so. I'm guessing the better comparison would be the Uly and Tiger, but I've yet to work on a Uly. I imagine though, the Uly wouldn't be that far removed from my bike with regards to this particular repair. Thanks Buell for keeping it simple. Also, thanks for keeping the belt drive, even though I did cuss it in the beginning (I have an 03). | ||

Thanks for all your help Glitch! I got everything buttoned up and leak free for now.  Gotta give it to Triumph though, they build some freaking durable off-road machines! It isn't a Buell, but hell, I'll ride whatever is running! Smokescreen | ||

All in all, it was a good time. I just wished I had more time to go for one of the test rides. I like the way that bike handles. I'm always willing to help you out, goodness knows you're always there when I need you! Now we need to work on your Buell. It's only like five months before MB-V. | ||

Yup, I hate working on your tiger SS. Really makes you love the XB. I got your lower fork tube at the house too. |
