Is the S1W factory tank considered to be the large or small Manta tank? (Message edited by torquemonster on October 17, 2007) |

large the small ones typically aren't referred to as "manta", per the protrusions at the lower front on the larger, that aren't present on the standard S1 and early Cyclone tanks. (Message edited by sleez on October 17, 2007) |

Thank you. I asked because I bought a set of x-roads 7 degree down that came off an S1W. Looks like trouble for my M2 @ full lock...Been hesitant to un-install the old bars based on that. |

You shouldn't have to "un-install" completely. Pull your flyscreen and cover the tank so you don't scratch anything. Remove the 2 bolts that hold your gauges on, lay them out of the way. Pull the 4 bolts that hold the bar clamp down and lay the bars forward on the headlight. Reinstall the 4 bolts, handlebar clamp, and your new bars loosely. If you are gentle you should be able to rotate the steering lock to lock - with the bars and gauge folded forward they shouldn't hit anything. That should let you know if you're going to clear or not without messing with switch pods, throttle cables, etc. |

I have Crossroads bars on my M2. If those bars worked for a Manta tanked S1, they should clear (just barely) a Manta tanked M2. I don't know if they would clear the M2 flyscreen though. If the bars themselves are shorter than Crossroads designed for an M2, the front brake reservoir will interfere with the flyscreen. I found the Crossroads bars way too wide (they are significantly wider than stock)and had to modify the flyscreen on my M2 to get the width down. |

Thanks Joe. I think Im gonna get to it tonight. Grip glue and longer bolts are next. I remember talking to you about your setup Dj. I really liked the flyscreen cutout. You using zero or 7 degree bars? |

They are off the shelf Crossroads with 7 degree bars. The lower and more forward riding position they provide is a good compromise for the street, but you gotta be going fast to get the weight off your hands. It took me a few months to get comfortable with them, but now I love it. I'd never go back to the original bars. |
