I'm sure this topic is gone over again and again, but this I'd like to clear it up.I've got a 2000 M2 and its got the shock with rear bracket that looks a little more beefed up than some that I see on here, but it doesn't have the remote res that I see on most of your bikes. Did the bike miss a recall? If someone could explain all the recalls to me that would be great, thanks alot |

Ok, does the replacement shock have the reservoir or was the recall just a heavier bracket. |

I think your best bet is to check with a dealer (even over the phone) and see if there are any outstanding recalls under your VIN. |

or you can do it yourself: http://www.harley-davidson.com/EX/MNT/SCHK/en/serv icecheckup.asp?locale=en_GB&bmLocale=en_GB |

You probably still have the original non-reservoir long shock with the SRP cage over the front eye and clamshell cage over the rear of the spring cannister. |

I realize the bike is 7 years old so im assuming I cant get the work done without buying a new shock and just doing it myself. The shock does get black with oil after a little while and seems to "bounce" especially when I have a passenger, i guess i just got used to it. It can be a little dangerous when you come into a corner and it bounces you out after it compresses. I was going to have it rebuilt over the winter. |

That's it. It's not considered one of the better Showa dampers Buell has used. The reservoir shock that Buell updated the SRP equipped Buells with is shorter and uses a different front mount. There was a time when the factory would 'goodwill' you the updated shock if you had an SRP equipped bike. It might be worth looking into. |

That shock is wasted. I wouldn't bother rebuilding it. It would be better to at least get a reservoir Showa to rebuild or just get an aftermarket shock. Unless rebuilding does something remarkable to the damping qualities of the Showa (any of them Buell used on tubers, reservoir or not), it won't hold a candle to a properly valved Penske. The Penske was a revelation on my bike after a succession of crappy Showas, but I remember the first one, the long SRP non-reservoir Showa as being the most miserable in terms of damping quality. |

Alright I called a few dealers and as soon as I get the VIN they can run it and see whether or not Harley will cover the cost because depending on whether or not it is a safety issue. |

That shock is definitely history. Looks as though it has been bad for a while. If Buell doesn't cover a new one, I w/ go with the Penske as DJ mentioned. While your at it it wouldn't hurt to update your rear isolators and maybe a Gold kit for the forks. |
