Why not have free automobile insurance? Most liberals want communist health care anyways - why not allow that to cover the bike wrecks. j/k www.ronpaul2008.com |

It seems like everyone wants to tell us what to do and not do, whether Republican, Democrat or crass commercial capitalist. If I want to ride without a helmet or drive without a seatbelt, I should be able to do that. If my daughter wants an abortion, she should be able to get one. If I'm a veggie and my wife wants to pull my plug, she should be able to do so. If it's not hurting anyone else, why should we not have the freedom to do it> |

If people are pissing me off by making those loud engine noises in my neighborhood, how DARE they infringe on my first amendment right to self expression when I string a wire across the road at a riding motorcyclist's neck height? Or if I exercise my second amendment rights and just shoot them? I have rights, yes. Are there limits to my rights? Should there be? |

Insurance is legalized gambling - where the insurance company always has the house advantage (and the right to kick you out if you win) |

Once you let them take away your rights, it is a very slippery slope to full control. Who would have ever figured that they would ban smoking and now they want to ban it in people's own houses. Where does it end? |

It's because they hate our freedom... exactly, freedom is the achilles heel of socialism. and socialism is power to the government, not the people. this is exactly why i can't understand why anyone thinks hilary or any of the current bunch of socialists parading around as dems are good for our country. she's a power hungry socialist. losing the right to buy any bike you want is a small step in the molding of the "great society". |

anybody ever see equalibrium....good movie...watch it...a utopian society is a pipe dream, a myth...im sure our forefathers have been rolling in their graves for many years. i know my family didnt spill blood in far away countries to watch my rights fade away...i didnt spend 6 years in the army to see my freedoms taken away at will by people that think they know what is best for me. |

Amazing. A very real threat to motorcycling, and people have to bicker over which partisan group is more restrictive. This is a fact: the Insurance industry exists to take in as much money as possible while paying out as little as possible. They want motorcycles off the road. They will use liberals, conservatives, Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Communists or Nazis to get what they want. They want ALL motorcycles off the road. I strongly urge everyone to join the AMA. They are the most credible defense we have to keep them at bay. The Good Hands are holding a Piece of the Rock, and they're just waiting to drop it on us. |

I strongly urge everyone to join the AMA. They are the most credible defense we have to keep them at bay. While I agree with the sentiment - YES, Join the AMA!! - I disagree with the notion that we REFUSE to change our behavior; we expect to continue to ride at the edge of and outside of our limits and THEREFORE we need the AMA to protect our rights to be terminally stupid. We need the AMA - yes! We also MUST FIRST control our own actions and the actions of those we know. We are bringing all this down on our own heads and looking to others outside ourselves to prevent the predictable responses from the public (and Government) and from the insurance industry. |

I believe I still have 3 more years on my membership. The AMA is the strongest motorcycle advocacy group in the US. They wield a serious amount of lobbying power in congress. Membership is cheap, so the only reason not to join would be if you trust the monkeys in D.C. to not mess with your rights as a rider. I can't imagine any of the BadWeBbers I've met being that naive. Join and increase the authority of the AMA to speak for us in congress |

We don't need no stinkin' insurance nor IIHS politics. Isn't there a provision, in Calif. at least, that one can post a bond for x amount of $ or have that amount available to be able to drive (not that I have a million dollars laying around just so I can ride/drive)? |

just to tie it all together, Progressive insurance is a HUGE contributor to the Dems. Really? I'd like to see your proof because that's not what they say. But they DO contribute to the IIHS. Check the link: http://www.progressive.com/progressive/foundation. asp If anything, this thread was enough to make me sign up for the AMA. Member packet arrives in three to four weeks! |

In the NRA to keep my gun rights, and my gun mine, I suppose the AMA should suit the same purpose for my bike. You can have either, provided you are prepared to pry them my my cold dead hands. Otherwise, riding and pistol packin. |

OK - here's ANOTHER hijack of this thread: AIDS kills more than gun violence (according to Aids activists) AIDS is largely a male-transmitted disease. Therefore PENISES kill more people than do firearms! PENIS CONTROL NOW! They can have my penis when they pry it from my cold, dead hands! Think about it... hunting tags, same restricted use, display/threats. No discharge in public - you name it... it does get kinda silly but you follow my logic here? |

remember, if you have progressive insurance, you are funding the people trying to take away your right to choose whatever bike you want. way to go. yes i did know about progressive before all this, which is why i give geico about 100 bucks more than progressive would be to insure my vehicles. no friend of that treasonous george soros is gettin my loot. |

Bad news, folks. Republican or Democrat, it don't matter. They don't like us. We're unsafe (liberals don't like that) we cost money (conservatives don't like that) and we're free thinkers (neither side likes that. If they can't control you with rhetoric, you may see they have no clothes.) That's why I'm in the NRA, ACLU and Rutherford Institute. Now I'm joining the AMA. |

EXACTLY my point! The IIHS will use the "Safety" argument with a Democratic Congress, and they'll use the "Government interfering with business" argument if we had a Republican Congress. Fact is, they don't CARE! All they want to do is pocket YOUR money and give you NOTHING in return. They'll use whatever argument they think will work depending on with whom they have an audience. If you go around saying "Liberal this" and "Right wing that," you've already lost the argument because you don't know what you're talking about. |

In todays political market it doesnt matter how many people you have behind you, if somebody is gonna make a deal with somebody else to sign this or that and i will pay this or that----its gonna go down either way. ponder this, why presidential canditates spend millions upon millions of dollars running for a job that pays 250k a year? |

"If it's not hurting anyone else, why should we not have the freedom to do it" The only problem is, some of those things DO hurt others. You crash without a helmet and sustain a head injury that would have been avoided with a helmet. The additional cost for medical care doesn't come out of just your pocket when everyone elses insurance premiums increase, etc etc |

you cant blame our pleasures on a screwed up medical industry. I and all of us for that matter have benefits that we pay for for to cover OURSELVES. if insurance will not cover it why should it come out of everyone elses pocket? there are few people trying to pinch a lil from everyone. |

There have been some great discussions as to what motivates insurance companies. Jaimec even got close with the "It's BUSINESS" statement. He was basically right it's CORPORATE BUSINESS. When an organization has to follow LAWS that require is to be profitable or suffer lawsuits from its shareholders, many look for any way to profit. If they can get sport bikes off the road with little resistance from the public that is what they will work for. We must also keep a keen eye out for a smoke and mirror routine. What I mean by this is while they have everyone worked up about the big story they are in the shadows working on what they really want to do. Can anyone tell me where the national helmet law stands right now (they want that too). Could this be what's in the shadows? |

First it starts with helmet laws. Then it moves to full gear laws. When all that doesn't work out they'll move to seat belts on bikes (don't laugh, it was suggested at one point.) When that doesn't work out they'll move to banning. This is just a short description of what can happen. |

I doubt they'll go for seat belts but they do mention that the Honda Goldwing has airbags and . . . . . |
