Blake ,quote[.....I don't agree that the world sees Buells as Harley Sport bikes. Not if they know anything about the history of Buell. I certainly don't see them that way.] I guess the world around here does

VR, I really dig your bike. Totally cool, except for calling/labeling it a Harley. You might as well label it an RC51 Replica or a Ducati Replica as a Harley VR replica. It is a Buell, not a Harley. |

"Why ask Why?" -Amheuser Busch/Bud Dry Marketing Come on everyone. Let's give credit where credit is due but let us also not get so hung up on brand identifications. I love my Buell but will I never own another maker's bike? Most likely, I will just because there are so many great motorcycles out there to know and love. I am richer and better for having known and ridden my Buell. |

And on last night's news it was mentioned that some business investor analysts have down-graded H-D stock from "buy" to one notch lower. They think sales will falter this year. I have seen the future, and it ROCKS! Don't ask because like the saying goes, "If I told you, I'd have to kill you! Just wait till September

duh....(drool..).., this is stupid. It's simple, you correct the person and say it's a Buell. It's power comes from a H-D motor built for Buell, end of story unless you want to educate the idiot about the company that built their bike. |

That's what's going to be really interesting. How will perceptions of Buell change when Harley sales are down, but Buell sales are up . . . (in the words of Dick Cheney) "big time"? |

"Chrome Dept" Ohhhhhhhhhh Noooooooooo Mr. Billllllllllllllll, they've done gone and chromed the XB framessssssssssssssssssssssssss. Hopefully what I saw and what you saw are the same thing. What I saw didn't look like any Mule. And even though we were told we would speak about anything we saw there, the way the handlers of it did a duck-n-cover dance told me more. Perhaps we'll see in a week, perhaps in July in LasVegas, perhaps we'll see in August, but we should definitely hopefully know before September. Elvis, Until Buell sales surpass H-D & Sportster sales things will remain somewhat as they are. (That aught to generate a few responses.) |

Blake, It seems pride gets in the way of many things.Pride of name. Pride of ownership. If E. Buell wanted to sell all those left over tube frames sitting around all he'd have to do is make them into special editions VR's. I think its a missed opportunity, he should use Harley's name recognition not snuff it. Eventually people would see the idea behind the Buell's and warm up to them. |

Pride goeth before a fall, and usually in a corner. Unfortunately, cosmetics usually often sells better than functionality in many cases. I personally don't think Erik "snuff"'s Harley-Davidson's name, haven't heard anyone say if he ever has in fact said anything derogatory towards H-D in public or private meetings. This either means he hasn't, or if he has all those in earshot have kept it closed to outside ears. I'm guessing the former is probably the case. "Nothing against them, just doing something they're not" is probably more the case. I forget, what was the question????? |

Buells are not Harleys, and vice-versa. I know of no one who works at Buell who would want their motorcycles called Harleys; Willie G or anyone else at Harley would go ballistic if you stuck a Buell sticker on a Harley. It's not that the Buell people dislike Harleys; it's just that Harleys are what they are, and Buells are something different. Even the people at GM divisions get irritated if you mislabel their products, and those machines are far more similar, than say a 2003 Sportster Sport and a 2003 XB9S Lightning. And that's certainly not going to change with the new model year.

Why not badge the XB9S as the XBS (or XLBS)Sportster and put the bar and shield on the frames? Add more chrome and it would probably sell better than the XB's are selling. The 9S is more of a "Sport"ster than the XLH. |

Or, you could badge Honda's new 1600 with a bar and shield and call it a Dyna... |

Elvis, does this work for you: I had the hog out for 130 miles today. Highway pegs are a nice change of pace for the legs. Full-faced helmet also quiets the noisy motor. Greg, funny! My point is that the XB9S is more true to the spirit of the original Sportster than the current XLH is. |

Willie G or anyone else at Harley would go ballistic if you stuck a Buell sticker on a Harley There is also a bit of the union/non-union deal going on as well. Harley is all unionized, whereas Buell is not. The Union has been trying to get a foothold in there but so far no dice. |

Elvis: funny you should mention that because yesterday while I was at a red light, a guy went by on an M2 or X1 (they all look alike to me!) with a half helmet on. It looked bizare! And, I wear my full face Buell helmet when I take the 883R for a spin. Still not saying a Buell is a Harley but lets face it, where would Buell be without Harley? But what do I know, I drive a Chevrolet/Geo/Suzuki Tracker/Vitara! |

Where would Buell be without Harley... That's a whole nother topic. I bet Mr. Buell would be designing and building kick arse motorcycles, somewhere. |

I hope none of you's will be offended because when I spray my new tank up I'm putting Massey Ferguson on it. Thought it appropriate and should raise a few eyebrows...I also have some Norton transfers...decisions, decisions!! |

>>>Where would Buell be without Harley... That *IS* an entirely different topic and the operative question, given Erik's resolve, is not "if" but simply "where". HD was not the only manufacturer that was or would benefit by aligning themselves with Erik Buell, the people he surrounds himself with and their work product. The Union issue has nothing to do with the badging or naming and tends to be introduced into conversations out of context. There are valid reasons and the skills and personalities required by both firms, HD and Buell, are much different. Court P.S. - Mr. Davidson's biggest hissy fit has nothing to do with Buell. Try sitting in a meeting and using the term "Harley" and see what he does. |

BigSherm, Yep, and if they offered it like that from the factory the H.O.G. dudes would be buying every single one of them off the showroom floor. Elvis, That day is past, I've already seen both those scenarios multiple times around here. Court, I used to live down a few doors from someone who did financial work for a Harley (either daughter or grand daughter, I forget which). You're right though, if you really want to see Willie's ears turn red just mention that the company started with one Harley and three Davidsons and is still universally known as a "Harley". Such is life at times. I sometimes wonder if any Davidsons have ever bought clothing from Harley's Menswear in Shorewood? (Shame on me.) |

No, no hints, just indirect mathematics, sort of like: A + 3.27 = Y-lean%. |

Riddle me this: Why is it that people always come up to me at gas stops, etc. and ask, "What is that? A Buell? Who makes it?" These are usually people climbing out of a SUV or a mini-van. I like the fact that my bike draws attention but how should I answer them? Duh, Buell? I mean, what if I was riding a Honda. Would I get this same question? Why do people question who makes a Buell? I assume people don't question who makes a Honda or a Yamaha and certainly not a Harley-Davidson. It's just kinda weird. I never had people asking me who made my Harley-Davidson Sportster. |

Most people are ignorant, but at least they can read . If you put a Harley-Davidson sticker on a Goldwing, most people would think it was a Harley, and not even think twice about it. James |

Recently I've had a change of feelings. In the past I've wanted a Harley Big Twin in a bad way. I'd look at the owners and think how lucky they are. But. Recently I've felt like I know a secret. I've bought a Buell and admitidly did buy it thinking "cause its a Harley". Now. I admit the big twin riders look kinda different. I pitty them for spending so much money for so little technology. I used to want everyone to know my Buell was a H.D. But I know its more than a Harley. I personally feel it's better. It's a Buell. Where did you think Harleys V-Rod thinking came from. |
