Aaron, Can you contribute the ability to run at 7500rpm to the lifters? The cams are not too wild, whats keeping the valves controlled? Nice job! |

Note how the slot has been elongated Another view The fins are a lot bigger than the Thunderstorm's fins and they overhang the cylinders. The red rocket. That Frontier air filter works good. It pulled 120.6 with it on! |

That's the fuel solenoid. Remember, in the fuel class, you have to be able to shut off the fuel supply without removing your hands from the bars. Unvalved portions like that piece between the petcock and the solenoid need to have fireproof sleeve on'em. Damn, Sean, 121hp and I can't even get a "Bullocks!" out of Yorkshire? What's the matter dood? I remember a time when 113 brought howls of "happy dyno". How big of a number do I have to post to get a little skepticism brewing? |

Aaron, What gear are those dyno pulls? You have done some fine work on those bikes and some impressive numbers indeed. Inquiring minds want to know, Steve |

No secrets here, those are 5th gear pulls. The bike has a 6-speed. It shows a little more in 5th than it does in 4th or 6th. It's not a big difference, on this bike it was maybe 1hp. It's not always 5th gear that shows the best number, either. |

Bullocks!!!! From the original "Happy Dyno" victim! I know, a "Bullocks" from SE Ohio doesn't rate when compared to a Yorkshire "Bullocks"... But there is a historical significance. Good going, Aaron!!! Rocket... you've gone soft! Steve |

Don't you guys mean bollocks? That certainly sounds more like Sean's english. Isn't a bullock just a bull?(It's my second 24 hours here and I am bored, can't you tell?) |

Ah yes Aaron but it's old hat to me. Remember if you will, I saw that M2 pull 120 last year. In fact I'm a little disappointed you haven't hit 130 yet LOL. Anyways you know I've always thought it was the 'wrong' bike. Just ask Susan (and give her a kiss from me). Rocket |

Thanks, Sean, appreciate the bollocks ... and if it's any consolation, I'm disappointed it's not making 130, too. Man, it's on the trajectory, but that last 1000rpm it loses it. We're only 1000rpm of cylinder fill away from 130hp streetable!!! You don't think that keeps me awake at night? We'll figure it out. Or die trying. We have several theories about what's holding it back already. Someone I really respect and admire in this business told me not long ago that in his opinion, we're nowhere near any kind of a limit, that as good as we think we are, in reality we're just scratching the surface of what can be done. I believe he's right. When I see a good result like this I enjoy it for about a nanosecond and then I immediately start seeing the potential. If only we could hold that torque up another 1000rpm ... And of course, once we accomplish that, then it'll be something else. I'm convinced that in the entire scope of what can be done, we have a long way to go yet. Aaron: The angle change on the curve during the last 1000 rpm might very well be intake restriction. I bet dual carb heads and raised runners would give you 135. |

JM, He's not trying to build a race bike. Dual carb defeats the whole purpose. What are raised runners? |

He' talking about raising the intake and/or exhaust ports. STD and others will gladly sell us heads with the ports already raised, valve angles changed, etc etc. Custom intake and exhaust systems then become required. Sometimes you have to take measures to correct valvetrain geometry, too. You can certainly get some good results going down that path. But it's more expensive and complex and therefore it's a small market compared to the OEM based bolt-on market. So for this project, I focused on the market that pays the bills "> (Message edited by aaron on May 28, 2003, %time) |

Not revised yet Jose. In fact, next Wednesday, my solicitor will be issuing legal proceedings against Just Harleys workshop. Sadly for me, legal reasons prevent me from doing anything to the broken motor yet. No worries though, I've learned patience where Buell is concerned. One more year off the road won't harm, especially when the compensation rolls in. I'll have my day for sure. Tell ya what though, I don't know if I'll ever enjoy owning a cool S1W anymore. Everyone in my town knows my Buell and that in itself is embarrassing enough given the state it's in and what it use to be! Rocket |

Jim, infrequently Jose and I email one another. For legal reasons i've said little on the board. You might recall that at the end of summer 2001 the front cylinder head mount snapped. After a lot of negotiation Buell UK repaired it under warranty. Long story short, they (appointed dealer) fucked up the repair big time culminating in 1400 miles of Wiseco forged finest kissing the cylinder head. Even S&S con rods can't take that much of a hammering. Now I have extra crankcase breathing about the size of the Grand Canyon and it's been like that since July last year. You know what pisses me off more than anything else? I thought I'd bought into a prestige marque where the manufacturer would put pressure on its representatives to keep its customers sweet. Not so. My only course of action, because of the dealers attitude, is a legal one now. And to think the dealer is covered by workshop insurance. 4 1\2 years of Buell ownership and it's spent 2 of them laid up. What kind of a bike is that? It's a fucking ornament and an embarrassment to my street cred with my biking buddies especially since I've been such a strong advocate for the Buell brand. Never again. Rocket |

Sean, Oh, now I remember the story. Wow, I thought that was taken care of LONG ago. Didn't realize it turned into a nightmare. Suppose I missed all this when I went out of state to work. I recall meeting this old guy (about my age) at a BRAG meeting at Hacienda HD back in 98 that purchased a M2. His M2 had been in the shop under warranty issues for 10 freaking months and he just got it back that evening! I would have torched the fucking place. I also understand the street cred thing too. All my buds thought I was a wimp for letting them keep my bike for 5 months without kicking someone ass. I won't say never again but I don't see a new Buell in my future. -JW:> |

Rocket, Seems odd that it took 1,400 miles of a piston hitting the cylinder head to result in a problem. Especially knowing the way you ride. And certainly you would have heard something no? How can a piston impact the cylinder head and you not hear it? Am I missing something? |
