What do you guys think about the 1050cc kit. It is about $800 for a stage 1 kit. I am contemplating this mod for a winter project. What do you guys think?? |

I say go for it. Have it dynoed before and after and let us know how it goes. I'd like to do the 1150 to mine, maybe @ 15000 miles or so, I'll start saving up. |

I'd tend to wait til the top end needed rebuilding anyways. I'm so anal-retentive on suspension and handling, that's where I'd put my money first. Predictable handling will make you "faster" than horsepower. That being said, the 1050 is not a bad way to go for a couple more ponies without suffering in reliability. |

Slaughter, If you had $500-$1000 to spend on suspension/handling mods.........what would you buy - considering your bike has no other suspension/handling mods done to it (exception would be grips/pegs/bars). |

Re-spring for your weight and re-valve the forks. About $500 or less. The shock could be replaced with the $500-$600 you have left. I'll go look at some stuff I have written down during my searches. I tossed a pretty big wad of money into the forks and rear shock but did look into other options... but it's past my bedtime (sorry) - I'll go get the info... promise. Another factor to consider is that you only get 1020 cc's with a 1050 kit. (3.125 stroke X 3.5625 bore = 1020.3726 cc's) |

This winter looks like a top-end-re-do for me. That is of course I can stop riding that long. Right now I'm a little over 55thousand miles. Since I'm going to be doing the engine anyway, I may as well do a little upgrading while I'm in there. The suspension is on the short list as well, even though I have no complaints with the stock set up what so ever. I have had to replace the rear shock about 6thousand miles ago, and I rebuilt the forks earlier this year. (With stock components.) Edit: To answer the original question. Yes I believe that if you're going to freshen up your engine the 1050 kit is worth it. It's not all that much more than replacing with stock equipment. For me anyway, I'll be doing all the work, or I'll be doing all the work with help from some of my friends at the Buell Barn. (Message edited by glitch on September 12, 2007) |

The Racetech gold valve kits for the forks are about $200, the Springs are going to be about another $150-ish. Rear shock (Penske 8983) is going to be about another $800. Check around on the shocks - you can get deals on Penske, Ohlins, Elka shocks. You'll need to know the eye-to-eye spacing on the stock shock (don't have that info handy right here) |

I went from 1203 to 1250 with the big bore kit from NRHS. Had them do the stage 1 head porting while I was in there. I am very pleased with the results. |

hey glitch, how come the top end redo? it starting to show signs of needing something or just preventative? Paranoia? The bike runs great! The only real wear problems I've had, are the rear shock sprung a leak, and I lost a fork seal. The rear shock was a quick replacement, and New12r and I re-built the forks. While re-building the forks, we noticed very little wear, considering the mileage. Don't smoke, start hard, or anything like that. And y'all know the bike hasn't exactly been babied. I may just wait and see just how many miles I can get out of it before I do anything to the engine, really just thinking out loud, and daydreaming. |

Treadmarks, what kind of power gain do you think you got from those mods? Mac, It hasn't been on a dyno yet, but with the American Sport Bike map from Al and the micron system this baby will move. It has much more power down low right off idle. Midrange will pick the wheel right up without slipping the clutch. It likes to rev up now, much easier than before. Still got 48 mpg last tank, and it's not even broke in yet. |
