Well I looked through the vault and couldn't really find an answer, so here we go. Does anyone have a recommendation on how to mitigate or eliminate the cooking of my right leg from the stock S1W header ?? I've noticed the bends on the later year Buells are different, was this to help with the heat ?? Can a later year exhaust be fitted to my 98 ?? The coatings (Jethot etc.) do they help much ?? and I believe I read that it would also be a good idea to polish out the heatshield. Thanks everyone, Chris |

Chris, I had the simplest and best results from removing the stock heat shield completely. It seems the onrushing air gets behind the heat shield and carries the hot header heat directly to your inner right thigh. Ditch the shield and presto no problem. My headers are polished but I found no appreciable heat difference. Coatings may help but I have found all eventually stain and chip. The tubeframe headers I believe are interchangeable only from early model to late and not the other way around. Someone may be able to confirm that. There is a difference in the frame tube in the area of the header that allows the 99+ header to fit inside the frame rather than outside . SteveH |

Thanks Steve, I'll try it out when I return home in a few weeks and let you know how it works out for me. I also scored the factory rearsets from a dealer where they had been hanging on the wall for at least 2 years that I knew of for $225. They may also help by moving my leg back a bit. Chris |

Some heat wrap helps tremendously as well. |

Thanks Rick, I'll put that on the list. Are all the wraps the same or is there one that stands above the rest ?? |

I think Thermo-Tech is the best one I've used. DEI wrap always rots out in no time. |

Thanks again for the info, I'll pick some up when I get home from Colorado in a month. |

The wrap works but it's a love it or hate it look. SteveH |

understood, in this matter I'm more inclined to go with function over form. |
