The other day me and a couple of my buddies went on a ride through our Idaho mountains. When we returned to my house I said, "...what a great 175 mile ride.." Both my friend looked at me like I was crazy since both their bikes said they went a 150 miles. In the morning we all went and got fuel together and all reset our trip logs, and all three of us went on the exact same ride. So now how come my bike counted an extra 25 miles? My only guess is that I have an incorrect front tire size? I though it was stock. My front tire does not look small by any means. Do any of you out there have any ideas? Thanks, Mike |

I don't know about your '97 S3, but my '96 S1 has a mechanical speedo. It was registering speeds that were nowhere close (I got a ticket for going 51 in a 35 and I swear my speedo was registering a tic over 40) and counting mileage that didn't add up for about a week. Then it stopped working altogether. I ordered a new one and cut the old one opened to satisfy my curiosity. The spring had snapped and wound itself up along the shaft. So, maybe your problem is that the spring is near failure? I'm no expert in mech speedos, just offering up a suggestion. |
