Congrats to BMC on the 1125r, it looks to be a beautiful ride! I'm also really glad to see the thunderstorm engine is continuing and improving. I ride an '03 XB9SL and love it. I have a 26" inseam on a tall day and it's great to have a bike that fits AND is so much fun to ride. I hope BMC will make a lower version of the 1125r in something like its present sportbike configuration with the xbrr-like fairing. Like many others posting on this forum I use my bike for a lengthy commute and sport-touring, and the 1125 looks like it only needs a bit of luggage to be a really great ST machine. The problem is I'm not sure I can wait for the low version! So here's the question: Could the 1125r suspension be modified to lower the seat height without greatly compromising the work BMC has put into the machine?

Thanks in advance for your response.

I have a 2007 XB12Scg because of my 29" inseam. I told my wife that it's a good thing that the 1125R is probably too tall for me since I absolutely lust after one.

Please wait a couple of years before you make the lower one. I might be able to sell her on the idea.

You know, Lugnut; I have a 30" inseam, and I ride a Uly. The 1125 is a lot lower than my Uly, so you'll probably have no problem with the height. Don't write it off as too tall until you've sat on one.
Now you have to figure out a good was to convince your wife that getting one would be a good thing.

Well I am between 5'6" and 5'7" depending on the day. When I stand next to a Uly with the standard non lowered seat I am like wow this is up there with a dirt bike. But sure enough get on the seat and I can ride it. Is it like my firebolt? No but still I would have no issues riding a Uly now that I have sat on one. Lean the bike a little to the left and slide your cheeks to the left a little and I am very confident in my ability to hold the bike up for as long as needed.

With that being said I am not sure how you would do since you have a 26" inseam. My inseam is 28".

BumbleBuell is only 5'.. and the ONLY bike that she's comfortable on is a Blast.. Or a seriously slammed sporty..

She and I both wish Buell would either make a 'hooligan' Blast or a truly LOW V-twin that she would be able to ride..

Hmmm.. If they build it.. She'll buy it.. I know she will.. I'm sure others would as well..

Not sure if you remember her from the Boone Adventure...

She was the one that came to the farewell dinner with both hands sprained.
You may have also gotten a glimpse or two of her at Lavale MD?

She and her little BumbleBuell (Blast) can really get down and chop some corners. She's working now on shifting her weight as opposed to just leaning (after about twenty discussions why it's better to have more tire in contact when you're turning). Even funnier, she's not even aware of how well she rides and when people talk to her about 'trying' to follow her lines or how well she held her line and nobody could get around her.. she thinks it's them complaining about her being slow and in the way or not riding in the right place to allow the 'better, faster' folks around her.. She's slowly learning what it really means.. and folks like us will just keep letting her know until it sinks in and she takes the compliments as they were meant.

So what about it anony? Can the suspension be lowered? Would the shock from another model fit? I'm hoping to test ride an 1125r in November. I'm really excited about the bike and am even considering selling my beloved and faithful Dyna T-Sport (hope she's not listening), but I don't know that I can part with my Lightning low.

Here's my dimensions just in case you want to give me your first 1125rcg for a long-range (as in indefinite) real-world test ride: 5'3" short, 26" inseam, 32" sleeve, 150 lbs. I won't charge you a penny.
