Well, the trigger has been pulled. My CityX was picked up by its purchaser today and funds were in order, so I was able to make the call to my local dealer. A brand new '06 Ulysses is awaiting at the dealership with my name on it! I pick her up on Wednesday. I can't wait!!! Later, EV |

Welcome aboard! I'm actually surprised there are any '06s still sitting around. Make sure you give a holler if you're riding around the Chicagoland area. Best, Sean |

Thanks all! Quick question.....will a standard XB airbox cover (specifically the translucent pieces) fit on the Uly frame? Thanks, EV |

I'm actually surprised there are any '06s still sitting around. My local dealer has two sitting on the floor, one with a full set of bags. I was surprised as well. Welcome EV!!!! |

It's not really that much of a surprise to see new '06's still on the showroom floor. It is a niche bike that is not visually appealing right off the bat to most people looking for a motorcycle....but for those that take the time to ride it...wow! Sad but true it is a a showroom Ugly Duckling to most "shoppers".... but as many on this board know it is one of the best riding motorbikes ever built! |

I get stopped by people al the time wanting to know more about the Uly. Old guys young guys in between guys. Funny no women have asked about it. Would you consider it a guy bike? |

Congrats on the new bike! I'm trying to remember all thing little quirks I've figured out over the last couple of years. Here is what I can come up with off the top of my head: 1 - If the bike "swims" on the highway, it's the D616 tires. It will go away if you switch to something else. 2 - The front D616 will cup before it gets to the wearbars. If you have funny headshake issues on deceleration, you need a new front tire (616 or not.) 3 - Some of the 06s had bad fans. If you hear grinding noise as the fan is running, get it replaced. 4 - The break in procedure was changed in the 07 manual. 5 - The 07 airbox is a great $35 mod. 6 - Lyndal pads help keep your brakes from getting pulsy. 7 - The service manual is a great investment. 8 - The mufflers rust. Paint it periodically, or get it ceramic coated. 9 - Don't lever the bags closed with the latches, they will break. 10 - The lights suck. If you want to ride at night, add extra lights. Hope you love the bike. I've got 25,000 miles on my 06. |

I just picked up my New 06 last week as well, replacing my 04 12R (which replaced my 9S)... Strange bike at first, but the more I ride it, the better I like it! Especially LOVE having hard bags and actual space to carry my stuff to work. Enjoy! -Mike |

Go now. I hope that you will enjoy your new love as much as the rest of us. Wear a helmet to keep the bugs out of your teeth, (ear to ear grin - permanently affixed) If your have a significant other, hope she doesn't get too jealous from your new love. If you have one, get her on it, she'll love it too. I hope that you are getting the faster one |

Well, I'm back and finally able to tell my tale.... I love this thing! My first impressions from demo rides of the Uly being very much like a larger version of my CityX are completely reinforced after riding her home. Here's my new baby; Here's me on my new baby; Now, since this is a new bike, I have to go through the old keep-it-under-3000rpm break-in routine. So, it was a full menu of backroads all the way home. About halfway there, I see a little sign for route 120 North, which takes me to; I just couldn't resist! I can truly say that both my first bike (the CityX) and now my second (the Uly) stopped by their birthplace on their way home on the day of purchase. Of course, the CityX's first day was a little more fun, as that was last year's homecoming..... Well, gotta roll. Gonna ride her into work tomorrow. Yay! Later, EV |

Dude that bike looks tiny. I sit on mine and it looks huge. I swear 80 % of all Uly guys are big big guys. I think you'll find over the next few days that keeping in the limits of the break in period is very hard, but from my research oh so very important. Congrats! |

Put the tall windscreen on last night. Very easy to do. When I rode in this morning, I noticed a little more wind whistle around my helmet, especially at low speeds. Any one else notice more wind noise going to the tall screen? Thanks, EV |

I did notice increased turbulence and noise. I also noticed it raised the wind up bit on my chest but not to my shoulders like others have noticed. |

Congrats! I cant wait to get mine... How tall are you so I have an idea of how I will fit on it. Do both of your feet sit flat on the ground? I am slightly over 6' so I imagine I will be fine... |

Johnny, I'm 6'3", 225lbs, with a 34" inseam. I can have both feet flat, but just barely. Since this is an '06, it's got the original tall seat. Later, EV |

Man, you DO make that bike look small! Nice bike! I just picked up an orange Uly, but I still like the black best- not enough to change mine though. I'm just 6', and with the 06 seat i was just shy of flat foot. Changed to an 07 seat, and I can put 'em both flat on the ground. Made a world of difference in my comfort at stoplights, especially since I'm used to my WAY lower Firebolt! Plus, I went with a black seat- I love the way the orange looks now w/o the extra seat "stripe" -Mike |

Man, you DO make that bike look small! I thought the same thing! Not many people can flat foot the Uly. Guess it really caught my attention since I ride with M2nc, one of the shortest Uly riders! EV & Rarebird - enjoy your new Ulys. It's a great bike. Rarebird - Remind Alyson to hold the grab bars or she'll be sliding into you hard on stops! (Message edited by Ulywife on August 10, 2007) |

Actually, Alyson still likes to hang on to me like a little "Tree Monkey" on the Uly, too- which is OK at this point! Thanks for the warning, though -Mike |

That last pic looks strange to me for some reason.. The HJC on the helmet and your head in general, and the ignition switch look a little sharper focus than the rest of the pic. Did you do some digital "enhancement" on it? It looks almost photoshopped. Of course we know it's not, but it just looks...strange to me. |

Congratulations on your new bike! I just recently discovered the Uly and it's all I can think about. I am currently trying to find a 2006 to buy in California but I can't get the price I want. If you don't mind, could the guys on this thread that just bought bikes tell me what you paid out the door? You could also PM me if you prefer. I just want to make sure I am not crazy on the price I am willing to pay. Any other thoughts on what I should pay for a new 2006 out the door? I would appreciate any feedback. I rode a Uly for the first time yesterday and I am converted. Thanks, Chris |
