So, since you're embarrassed that it's a Buell, what do you tell people when they ask you what is is. Do you lie and tell them it's a custom bike that YOU built? Tasty tidbit on the bike but I still like Hodakaguys bike much better. First of all I'm not imbarrassed that it's a buell. I'm just imbarressed to be 'name associated' with the new marketing production hype stuff. Second, I tell them it's a race harley. I like Hodakaguys bike also better, in fact his bike was part of an inspiration for me for the polishing work. I didn't know he was on this forum, found his pics on google. But to be honest, this is a very low budget bike. I just can't afford those sweet after market products. My bike is mostly containing his original parts, but then either painted, powdercoated or polished. Thanks. |

I give you credit for personalizing your bike tastefully .. you did a great job! BUT ... a Race Harley it isn't (Still taking credit away from the man responsible for it) ... The ONLY thing Harley really can take credit for was to build a motor - TO BUELL SPECIFICATIONS... Harley really didn't have anything to do with the design/build/etc.. That all happened in East Troy. And yes - I know HD owns Buell - but a Buell isn't a Harley .. That said ... Nice Buell S1 Lightning!!! ... baddest looking Buell ever made IMO. |

Thanks Tattoodnscrewd You're right about that... In the future I just say: no comment when people ask me what brand it is I just checked out your S1 and man it's a fine machine . Sometimes I just can't decide wether to put the short tail back on or not... btw I really like this forum, much better than our dutch forum where there's only XB talk these days. I've been reading this forum since 2002, but never registred. I will be coming back here more often, only at the old school section that is!! Thanks. (Message edited by buellgekk on July 25, 2007) |

Put whatever stickers you want on it. I sometimes give up and just say "it's a Harley" after trying to explain what a Buell is. Really nice photagraphy gekk. I like the composition. What is the facility in the background of the first pic? |

Hi. Buell designed a good frame and a not so good suspension etc.,around a Harley developed and Harley built engine(the best the company ever made, if you ask me). This incredible long stroke V2 hammer-motor gives the tubers their unique character. It's the heart of it all!So that Harley stickers have not been the worst solution,IMO. Who ever asked for that Rotax million revs engine? Btw.This S1 one is a real beauty! I'm living not far from the Netherlands in Essen;maybe we can meet some day. Xldevil: "Who ever asked for that Rotax million revs engine?" You've been here as long as I have. You should know the answer to that. Lots and lots of people. Most of them, myself included, wanted both air-cooled long stroke models and (a) water-cooled short stroke model(s), and now we have our wish. There's been mixed feelings about the new bike but I think that the good comments far outweigh the bad. |

I think those people who are interested in a racing bike have been asking for a higher output bike. Face it, the Buell X engine can only compete with 600's -- but for the street, the X engine is great. For the track, there is much to be desired... |

That is a sweet looking bike. Very nice. What tail section is that, the Air Tech? I like the looks with the Harley davidson logo, regardless of whether it's "accurate" or not. I think they may have had something to do with the engine. Who cares anyway, it's your bike. The Panzer is good too, this bike looks like a "panther". You sometimes see a custom build where hardly a single piece is actually source from H-D, it's all from Custom Chrome or the like, even a Rev-Tech engine from Korea, and it still has a H-D logo on the tank. My favorite H-D "logo" was one I saw about 30 years ago, somebody had a big twin with their own lettering on the tank that said "Harley Fu**ing Davidson" but not the stars. Thanks Jayvee! Yes it's the Airtech "BS1SB2 Super bike race tail". I've seen a bar & shield logo with "Harley Fu**ing Davidson" but not the stars. Can't find a pic right now |

Well, I'd rather see someone do this to their Buell and tell people it's a Harley than take a perfectly healthy X1/M2/S1/XB and cut it up to turn it into a mutant or some God-forsaken custom. Look at all the bikes on Ebay for sale being sold for parts after the motor was harvested for some "project" bike. One of the saddest sights I've ever seen is actually listed on Ebay right now. A BEAUTIFUL red S1 that is being listed as bodywork and frame/swingarm packages for sale. An otherwise complete bike minus motor/trans. It looks like the dead body of a lion or something that had its chest ripped open and the rest of the carcass left to rot. It makes me want to wretch on myself. |

I wholeheartedly agree with what Ron (Crashbuell) has said, so.... would my full faired M2 shown below be considered a custom or still just a "full faired Buell"? Just wondering because I always wanted a full faired bike and just happen to love Buells and had one to work with to accomplish that end. Bob

Bob, what tailsection is that? And how do you access the oil tank? |

Buellgekk, its an Airtech "Manta" from California and I made the seat removable with two screws to access the oil tank dipstick. |

Bob, do you have pictures of the tail from below? And how did you install the rearlight? |

Buellgekk, here ya go. Picture below but not too close. Hope it helps. The tailight is held by a couple of aluminum brackets and mounted to the rear of the frame tubing with rubber insulated clamps as is all the fairing pieces to try and alleviate some of the vibration getting to the fiberglass.

It's the WestTek frame stabilizer. They had been discontinued, but I kept getting requests for them so I convinced Tim to do one more run of them. I've made a last time buy of 12 of them. I'll put them back on web store when I finally get them. Al |
