Well, tearing the engine apart, for some oil leak repairs, cam cover leak, push rod tubers, crank seal, etc... ANYWAY, when pulling the plugs, to the front looked PERFECT... The rear... ashy white... WAY lean... So, I am guessing I will probably get around to fixing the wiring, and installing the PC that Oldog sent me back in January... still sitting on my bench... On that note, anyone got some 536s they want to gimme a good deal on... dont wanna tear this apart again... Anyway... SO.. the moral, at least in THIS case... the stock RACE ECM WILL NOT compensate for my 1250 kit. And I dont have a reliable tunning center within 2 hour drive... OR a trailer to get it there.... Back to sqaure one... time for a carb... Chase |

Have you checked your injectors to make sure you don't have one running weak? Not trying to talk you out of the upgrades / PC...but don't want to see a lot of parts go in and have it not fix the problem. Been there, done that... |

yeah, the injectors were actually blueprinted a few months ago.. and are new, but, I will check them none the less... BUT, the front being stoich, and the rear being lean, its just not enough fuel... Chase |

Could the rear cylinder be detonating on you? Heat related as opposed to fuel? ....Charlie |

Bear in mind that the computer only pays attention to the rear cylinder. The front one is only along for the ride so to speak. Perhaps a sensor is starting to go flaky on you? My plugs have always looked white. Not tan like in my ironhead. I thought that was normal in an X1. It's hard for me to believe that 50cc difference would change that much. Could it be something stupid like timing being off by 2 degrees? remember that the injectors are run off of the same sensor as the ignition. Senseless story time: When I was on a trip and when my bike was still under warrantee, I complained that my bike was pinging a bit. The tech (Oklahoma city) said no problem and tweaked the timing sensor as if it was a carbed bike. the end result was: no pinging no performance no fuel economy sputter sputter sputter all the way back to Boston. |

Nate, see, funny thing, my bike has always run RICH... and by rich, I mean DARK plugs... I also fin dit hard to believe that 50cc is making that much difference. I was tearing everything apart, new oil seal, cam cover gasket, puxh rods, etc... checked values of possible culprit sensors, and everything checked out.. Timing, well, possible, but, its still in factory position... She doesnt seem to be detonating, but, it could be... tomorrow, for my shakedown run, I will pay more attention to that, but, if it was, I am pretty sure I wouldnt have missed it.... BTW, broke one of the 7/16s friggin bolts in the rock box... was going in smooth, put the torque wrench on, and pop.... WTF?!?!?!?!?! DAMN, hope it doesnt leak... Chase |

Did you get the injectors done at the same time as the 1250? Wonder if you got a bad pair...or if the pair you got was supposed to go somewhere else for someone else's project. I also like the idea of an intake leak, or a bad O2 sensor...or fuel filter. Have you checked your fuel rail pressure? (Just going thru the checklist I have for my turbo cars - you think pinging is bad in a bike, try it under 24psi of boost!) |

Are you running the same plug for both cylinders? I like a colder plug in the rear because of the heat, just a thought....Charlie |

Put the rear plug under a magnifying glass and see if you see any sign of aluminium ....Charlie |

you think pinging is bad in a bike, try it under 24psi of boost!) Buick turbo guy myself... Anyway... The injectors, are MY injectors, brought them to a buddy at a injection shop, and he worked them over... Second, static fuel pressure is good... The only thing that changed, now that I think about it... I changed the heat on my plugs, from DPR 9-EA-9 to DPR 8-EA-9 Thinking I might need to go back to a cooler plug... forgot all about that... And no, no metal on the electrodes... tested the intake seals, and they are good as well. She is back together and running, AND... NOT marking her territory for the first time in a LONG time... My rear plug has always looked hotter than the front. I've contemplated using a colder running plug for the rear jug. Don't want to see anyone waste money, so I'm not sure if adding the PC will actually cure the problem since the front cylinder is working well for you. It sounds like the problem is just at the rear cylinder, not the whole engine? Before adding the PC, check all the other items and try a colder plug and see if it's just the plug running hot, pre-ignition or actually detonation. Especially since you can add the PC at any time later in the future. |

me too... sprayed about 3 or 4 cans of carb cleaner on the bike so far, trying to loosen up all the built up oil, from the last couple years of the cam cover leaking all over the place... Well, I am still getting some dripping from below, but, I am hoping its just oil that has loosened up with my application of carb cleaner, and dripping with water, etc.... Time will tell. As far as the plugs, I need to find the right part number off the box itself, so I can snag the right plugs... hopefully... cooler.. Did get the Power Commander soldered up last night, and ready to go in, just need a reliable dyno, and to know how to hook it up properly... Chase |
