OK, I have touched on this in another thread, but the more I look at the pics the less I see how a belt can be removed/fitted to the new swingarm. There has to be a removable section of the swingarm to allow the belt to be slotted in, but none of the pics show it.
Maybe anony or somewone who was at the dealer meeting and got a better look can help me out here? While I'm on the subject, take a look at the top photograph. See the unused machined boss on just below the rider footrest? A convenient place to put an additional mount for an adjustable chain tensioner, but what is the original purpose and will it be there on the production models? Curioser & curioser said Alice..... |

Matt, I don't see it in the above frame/swingarm photo, but there's evidence in the top photo:
There appears to be a removable segment that's mostly hidden behind the passenger footpeg bracket (highlighted here). The bolts for the removable section are more visible in this photo just under the passenger footpeg bracket, but I still can't see the removable section itself: http://photos.motorcycle-usa.com/08_1125R_L.jpg (Message edited by hughlysses on July 13, 2007) (Message edited by blake on July 13, 2007) |

I saw those bolts, but there doesn't seem to be a removable section that I can see either, unless it is a very small section a the top and the join is hidden by the passenger footrest bracket. Something else I noticed is the bike in the pictures appears to have a standard XB12 airbox cover complete with 'inlet grille' around the filler cap. As the new bike has a ram air induction inlet between the forks this would appear to be unnecessary. So it must be there because: 1. This is blanked off but retains the looks of the XB12 and means cheaper tooling. or 2. It will be removed for the final production bike. or.. 3. ? |

Trojan, Look in that other thread where I linked the pic Blake posted, it shows a possible removable section. |

Right near the top right hand corner of the pic, there appears to be a removable section:

There is a very small removable section in the area where you can see the bolts. You can (barely) see it in the rear view of the frame, swingarm, and shock |

Yea, thanks for that info. Otherwise Matt would still be trying to figure out how you cast the swingarm around the belt like that... |

"And This?" would be for the fuel pump. |

Yes that's probably for the fuel pump. Hopefully it's slightly easier to pull the pump out without removing the swingarm. It's doable on the bolt but it takes some patience and jacking up the rear to FULLY extend the swingarm. I think the part that comes out is to the left of your arrow. Just above the hole where the belt runs. |

I'm pretty sure this is the removable piece (blowup from photo above):
It looks like it's just large enough to allow the belt to be removed. I'd bet having a much smaller removable section helps make the swingarm stiffer, and it appears you only have to remove 2 bolts to remove it vice 4 on the XBs. |

The slot is basically the width of the belt twisted vertically; you can see the filled slot in the picture Blake posted. It's sufficient to get the belt on and off, and helps keep swingarm stiffness equal to previous swingarms on a unit that's 4 1/2 inches longer than that of an XB, and no heavier. |
