I can not believe someone has not bought the rights to the race pipe, and started producing them. It seems it would be sucessful. |

Wow that is an astronomical increase. Back in early 06 I bought a used race can for $275, a new ecm for $200, and a K&N filter for $45. That's $520 total and I thought that was high. What does a Drummer SS cost again? Why did Buell stop making the race can anyway? It's my favorite muffler. |

EPA, the bane of all of our existence Amen! Let's crack down on the "real" polluters like motorcycles and ignore the corporations dumping carcinogenic chemicals into our water system because they give us money under the table! |

Common E-bay scam... the winning bidder will give the seller some story about a "cashiers check" that they already have made out for a much larger dollar amount & ask the seller to wire the difference back to 'em by Western Union seller deposits the fake cashier check with his bank & days later finds out it's fake & he's out his goods PLUS a wad of cash |

EPA, the bane of all of our existence Bikes still have it good due to low production numbers. Bikes put out WAY more pollution than a typical SUV per mile traveled. They use less gas, but without the combination of a tight stoch burn and a catalyst tons of CO go out the back. Seriously, per mile motorcycles have much laxer standards than 5,000 pound passenger vehicles. Look it up in the Federal and/or CA regulations if you don't believe me. I've seen how much better the air is in California since 25 years ago, and now there are more than twice the number of vehicles on the road. I'm personally thankful for the pollution regulations. Besides, bikes and cars perform much better than they did in the good old days. HD's problem with selling performance products is that dealers install them, thus they are liable. Also, they sold Screaming Eagle products for bikes that could not possibly be considered off highway performance competitors. Kind of put the Motor Company in a bind. |

I have read that bikes put out more pollution than most other vehicles. That really wasn't the point of my post. What I was getting at is that there are bigger fish to fry to stop pollution. Air pollution is bad, but putting chemicals into your drinking water, and this IS happening, is much worse IMHO. There are reasons that some areas have insanely high cancer rates. It's not because of the air pollution from your motorcycle. And the EPA's crackdown on bikes is imminent. I think we all see this coming. |

I agree about water pollution, etc. Totally different departments and personnel at the EPA and CARB for water and air. Silos. The worst case that I know of in support of your point it when they let the oil companies keep using MTBE for a few years after determining all of the ground water issues. Poison the water in order to clean the air.... |

Hey I got a used Pro Series muffler just like the one in the auction. I'm gonna put it up on Ebay pretty soon. What do u guys think a good starting bid is? It has under a 1000 miles on it. I switched to a D&D exhaust and i dont plan on switching back. Obviously I'd like to get as much as possible but i want people to bid on it too. So what do u guys think? |

From that auction I doubt you'll have a problem getting bids. I'd do a no reserve low starting bid auction and see where it goes. I personally am more likely to bid on a no reserve auction. Sam |

Let's get back to pollution... Actually, what the EPA mandates, and the smog tests test for, are PERCENTAGES in the exhaust gases, not TOTAL amounts coming out the back. A typical SUV has a MUCH larger motor, and a MUCH higher volume of exhaust coming out the back, so it might be interesting to measure the TOTAL amount of pollution exiting said vehicles, to see what is REALLY HAPPENING! I bet the bikes are doing a lot better than you think, and the SUVs a lot worse! And of course, don't forget, what goes in must come out, regardless of how a "pollution control system" may CONVERT those products of combustion, the total weight expelled out the tail pipe is equal to the amount of fuel dumped down that engine. More or less... |

Actually, what the EPA mandates, and the smog tests test for, are PERCENTAGES in the exhaust gases, not TOTAL amounts coming out the back. You are confusing what is tested for emissions compliance on privately owned vehicles with the compliance testing and federal/state standards for production vehicles. The tests at the gas station are just to make sure things are working right. The manufacturers go through rigorous certification procudures that do, in fact, meet standards for the weight of the particles coming out the exhaust. They run a specific test procedure outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations. I can't remember the exact section because I've been out of the business since 1999. If you look up the standards you will see that motorcycles put our WAY MORE pollution in terms of weight of molecules per mile than do SUVs. Without tight stoch control coupled with a three-way catalyst you can't really run clean. Such a system is relatively expensive, so bikes are given a break due to low production numbers and relative cost of the emission control systems to the entire vehicle's sale price.
