Speaking of the Vision, I finally saw one at the local dealer. If it's possible, they actually look more bizarre in the "flesh" than they do in their pics.
I think I know what was hidden at Roswell all these years.

So I spent some time on the Uly and the Multistrada this weekend. Here's my quick thoughts on both:

Uly: Even with my 34" inseam, it is a TALL bike. I couldn't completly flat foot (my heals didn't reach the ground). I liked the power delivery and smooth shifting. However, my wife HATED the passenger seating. She felt very uncomfortable. I think it is because of the curvature seat. The Corbin on my S3T is "dished" to provide a pocket for her buns: )

Multistrada: While the bike is tall, it's not as tall as the Uly. The power delivery is a little strange. I think the throttle control could have been part of the trouble. It was extremely sensitive to input. I had a hard time keeping a steady throttle on bumpy roads. There was also a buzz through the handlebars that caused my hands to go numb after about 30 minutes. And if I thought my wife hated the seat on the Buell, the Ducati was 10x worse.

At this point, I'm still looking. The nearest Triumph dealer is out of Sprints. He has a Tiger but it's still in the crate. He isn't offering any demo rides either. I might try a Ducati ST3 in a few weeks. And the BMW rides may happen tomorrow (if the weather cooperates).

In the meantime, I'm still waiting on some parts to get the S3T back together. So I'm riding the S1W (but I'm back to stock controls all around!!)

Actually, in the comparo article Iamike refers to in his post above ("The New Pretenders", Rider magazine, August 2007), the rankings were as follows: Triumph Tiger 1050 - 1st (by 3 of 4 riders; tied for 1st with the Ducati Multistrada 1100S by rider 4), the Suzuki V-Strom 1000 - 2nd (by 3 of 4 riders), the Buell Ulysses XB12X - 3rd (by 3 of 4 riders), and the Ducati Multistrada 1100S - 4th (by 3 of 4 riders). In reality, it would have been hard for Rider to have rated the Triumph as anything less than 1st in this comparo as it did receive their "Motorcycle of the Year" award in the July 2007 edition.

For anyone that has directly compared the Tiger 1050 and the Buell Uly (meaning actually ridden both), what were/are some of your likes/dislikes about either bike? If you ultimately purchased the Uly, what was the tipping point in your decision process?

For the record, I don't work for either Buell or Triumph, so no, this isn't a disguised attempt at marketing research. It's just that these are the 2 bikes that I've narrowed my choices down to and, to be honest, if it hadn't have been for Buell's recent announcement regarding improvements to the '08 Uly and motor, the Tiger would have most likely gotten my nod. Now I'm more than just a bit conflicted to say the least.

Thoughts, musings and good advice will be most appreciated..!
