I'm just curious as to the cost of insurance... I've always had more or less full coverage on my bike just cause I live somewhere that it might get ripped off. My x1 ran me like $50 / month. My Truck (doesn't quite bluebook for what my uly does but does a whole lot more damage in a collsion) costs me around $100. My Uly is $145??? I have a clean driving record. This seems a bit high? What do you all think? I have progressive, but maybe I need to shop around? |

I'm at $60.70/mo with Lincoln General Insurance that the HD dealer provided when I bought my Uly. Progressive sucks. Shop around for sure. |

If it can be considered a sporty bike in any way, Progressive sucks on anything other than liability. I switched to Geico and saved a boatload of cash *and* upped my coverage. I think we pay ~ $1000 a year for full coverage on the Uly, DL650, KLR650 and a KTM Adventure with 2 riders with clean records in Metro Atlanta. |

DGunther Rides Ugly Bikes, and a lot of them, too! DGunther needs some speeding tickets! I think I'm around 580/yr on the Uly with Sentry. |

$70/year State Farm. State minimum coverages. I carry nothing but minimum liabilities on all my 4 bikes. I look at it from the standpoint that even if it is totaled or stolen I will only be out the cost of the bike and I can live with that. If you add up full coverage costs on 4 motorcycles over just a few years it is like the cost of another bike that I never will get to ride. Sort of the insurance company stealing a bike I never even got to sit on. I pay cash for bikes so I don't have to have full coverage, just minimums. One of you guys call dealers, "Stealers", but that is what the insurance companies are. At least the dealer gives something in return for our money, rarely is it that way with insurance companies. Freaking crooks. |

I have full coverage around a 1050 a year. I agree with Electraglider_1997 though and as soon as I have a year or two under my belt again I'll be back at the minimums. I haven't ridden in 15 years so I figured it was a good idea till I pick up the skills I've forgotten, oh this includes full coverage on an 04 intrepid also. wow... thanks for the info guys... Looks like progressive basically bent me over, made me grab my ankles and didn't even bother with the lube. |

I have an 04 Tiger with Proggressive @ $395 a year. I just got a quote on an 07 Uly for $752 for the same coverage package. They said they have the Uly in the sport bike category and the Tiger in the touring category. I ran into the same thing with the tiger, some Company's quoted around $1,000 because it fell into the sport category. I will probably be waiting until the 08 Uly shows up before I make the jump. I just switched from Progressive to Allstate on my Dyna. Saved me over half. From $450/yr to 220/yr. Geico and bikeline were similar to the allstate price. Progressive has really raised their rates it seems. |

I had Foremost with a 99 BMW and an 03 HD T-sport $800/yr for full coverage and high limits. Sold the T-sport and bought an 06 Uly and they wanted $884 for the Uly alone! Switched to Safeco @ $800 for both. Guess Foremost doesn't like Buell. I'm in CA |

Geico is great for giving little coverage and calling it full and of course high deductibles. apples to oranges. If you have high deductibles to bring down the premium then you might as well just go for state min liabilities and bank your savings. Everytime you put in a claim the insurance company just jacks up the premium to recoup. Or worse yet is when you put in the claim and because of the high deductible you get little or nothing and they jack up your premium because you are now high risk. It's a catch 22 situation with those hacks. (Message edited by electraglider_1997 on June 23, 2007) |

$250.00 Increasing it to $500.00 didn't make that much of a difference. |

I'm with Allstate. They have my house, a car and four bikes. I pay $400 a year, full coverage, plus extras for all of the bikes (0 Uly, 00 SV650, 78 RD400 and a 93 Ninja 250). That's cheap to me. Then again, I'm 29, one speeding ticket, no claims ever and they have everything of mine (which helps lower the premium). |

Try $1000 or drop collision entirely. |

Great overview of the VERY DYNAMIC motorcycle insurance business in today's Wall Street Journal. Great news that U. S. Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters is an avid rider who owns 2 Harley-Davidsons. Disconcerting to see fatals, on motorcycles, up 400% for folks in my age group but reassuring to see that Harley-Davidson's is moving WITH, not away from, their primary rider group. I'm finding it a bit tough to swallow the part of folks snapping up $63,000 choppers. Most the folks, in my age group, opt of a "look at me" bike (usually a Series Oro or high end Duc they can't ride) and a series of nostalgia (Pan Heads, XLCR's) bikes. Anyway . . interesting stuff.

You guys are lucky. Try being a 21 y/o male, with 3 speeding tickets in the past 3 years. I pay 2 grand a year for full coverage on my car. Luckily my bike is still in my dad's name. |

Be very cautious and YES (call me a nut) I'd suggest you READ the policy to make certain you are covered. Watch for language like "casual use" . . .like it's your dad's bike and you ride it only so often. I am amazed in NYC (about the most expensive place in the US, but dropped out of the world's Top 10 yesterday) the number of folks who get tags in NJ, PA, NC and FL. They get in an accident. Their residence is in Queens. They work in Manhattan. Then they get this deer in the headlights stare when the insurance guy tells them they are on their own for the $7,300 damage and any resulting civil action. I'm a huge fan of reading documents. Just be careful . . . I insured by two mutant offspring (now 27 and 29) for years and know the drill. |

Geico is great for giving little coverage and calling it full and of course high deductibles. I have 100k/300k liability and collision/comprehensive with a $1000 deductible. Why a $1000 deductible? Because if I have less damage than that, there is no way in hell I'd bother filing a claim in order to be reamed royally for the next 3 to 5 years over some minor damage. Face it, a bike is typically in 2 kinds of claims - small cosmetic ones that cause a bit of a sting to the wallet and not much else (usually around or under $1k damage) and being totaled - usually with accompanying medical expenses. I'll take care of the little ones myself and keep the insurance scum out of it. |
