What are the differences between California only bikes and the rest of the market? Just bought an 04 12S and the VIN shows it is a California model? |

The Cali model makes 14 less hp and 11lbs less torque. If the bike is blue you might as well have bought a blast. No i'm sure the differences are emissions or lighting adjustments. Nothing major. I'm sure someone else can tell you for sure if it matters. |

I know it has a charcoal canister, but not sure what else. |

Its only an emissions difference from what I understand (I live in CA and own 3 Buells) There is a charcoal canister, as stated above If its is still on the bike... simply remove it. I believe it then will be a 49state bike like All other Buells. You might ask AL at American Sport Bike though |

As far as I know it is only the addition of the charcoal cannister. It does not have any effect what so ever on performance. The only draw back is that on the S, it's right on the side of the engine and is fugly. At least on the R models it's hidden in the tail. |
