Well, it's 11:30 at night and I've just finished bolting my new NRHS billet front engine mount and new isolator onto my '99 X1. The saga started 7 weeks ago when my gearbox breather started spewing oil. A little at first but by the time I'd finished my 4000km ( 2500 miles to you Yanks) trip, the back end was covered. After 3 days, my local dealers 1450 km away in Perth, Western Australia couldn't even give me price and availability of the parts I would need. Hadn't even bothered. Al to the rescue. American Sport Bike had all I ordered and was received a record 5 days later. Not bad for outback Australia. Hassles with a crank seal installation tool took a while longer until a mate of mine made me one. Problem solved. Harley"experts" told me to bang it in with a piece of PVC pipe. Don't think so. 130 km later and the left engine mount bolt and the mount itself broke. A strip down revealed a torn front isolator as well. Didn't get all my bits until today due to a minor misunderstanding and by tomorrow morning she'll be a goer. Yay. Local workshop costs are AU$112.00 per hour. About US$95.00. Saved a fortune and learnt a lot. Common problems with uprated parts used for repairs, so, shouldn't give me any more grief. Photos to follow soon. Happy Buelling, Ken. |
