Does anybody with a catch can record any actuall volume in the can? i went on a long ride last weekend, and came to work this morning and there was spooge fricken everywhere, i gotta get a can asap. the spooge got on my coated force header, will it come off? | ||

I get about a teaspoon every ride. Some people in less humid areas say they don't get any. | ||

The coated header will come clean .. you can use aluminum polish, preferrablly an aircraft aluminum polish if you can find it, with a soft pad/cloth ... won't hurt it - will actually get off the spooge and give a little better shine to the pipes... (I do this all the time (it's my business) ... might sound odd - but it works... ) As far as the amount of spooge ... it varies from bike to bike ... best thing to eliminate it is XB rocker covers .. my S1 has them and I find no need for a catch can, prior to the cover swap - there was a little, but not much coming out of the breathers ... my M2 however, with standard covers and a catch can, needs to be emptied every other tank of gas ... So yea .. catch can's are a good idea .. TONS of info on different ways to do it in the archives .. just do a search for 'catch can' ... | ||

if the xb covers vent out of the top, what happens to the spooge that stays in the top of the motor? if it cant get out where does it go? if i just turned a hose straight up from my breathers and put filters on them hight than the cover is this the same? | ||

You need to fabricate or buy a catch-can. Look in the KV for 1001 ways to do it. Some are ways are cheaper than others, but they all accomplish the same thing. | ||

I can't say why exactly because I don't know the specifics .. but the XB covers are different not only in the way they breathe through the top, there are other differences, for example - the rocker boxes are 2 piece on the XB as opposed to the 3 piece rocker boxes on the tubers ... All I can say is they puke next to nothing, I have the breather line from the XB covers routed to the tail (with no catch or filter) and even after a track day - it was dry. If you did run your line out and go straight up you will have no less crap coming out of the breather, no matter how you try to route it - if it's spitting now - only a catch can or the XB covers are going to stop it from puking all over... catch can will be the cheaper than the XB covers though ... Like DJ and I said - check the archives, the KV ... it will help out a bunch. | ||

Mine pukes a bunch too. If I do a day long ride, the paint under the seat behind the intake will have oil across it, and my pants over my right knee will have oil all over them. I was going to reroute the puke line down so it spits onto the ground, instead of my leg/paint. | ||

This has always fasinated me. I still run the stock box and notice very little oil in the tube, never has been to the point where any has dripped out of the tube. Just installed new intakes seals, last fall installed new head cover gaskets and breather valves. Still I am only see a light film of oil in my air box tube. Im at 6500 miles. | ||

Mine can is 16 oz. and I get about 4-5 tablespoons a month. Can good, oily back tire bad. | ||

Mine must be bad, I have the XB rocker covers on my 01 X1 and it pukes about 2 oz in a two week period, thats about 300miles of commuting for me. I use a billet top piece with a standard baby bottle so its very easy to empty and monitor. I think I bought it from the billet2win guy on ebay Matt | ||

If you don't want to use the XB rocker boxes(which is the best system) You can route your lines vertical and over the heads(install a air/oil seperator/plastic) in the lines in the vertical section, then route out the back end. The plastic seperators are available at the HD Dealer and run about $3.50 ea. don't have the # anymore. Ran that set-up for two years(worked good) then went to the XB tops when I had a gasket that needed replacing. They are not that expensive.  Charlie |
