Motorcycle.com just redesigned their website and I found this article that I thought you'd all enjoy reading. You don't have to be a subscriber, either! http://news.motorcycle.com/shoot-outs/big-naked-an d-beautiful-openclass-standards-2006-3784.html

That's you can read the entire article by backtracking the pages but I thought that one section would be of the most interest to everyone here.

I really find it annoying that "Gobs of Power"
is so important....

Regardless of the rag, I love the Buell, and
what they call quirks, I call character.

Well, in THIS shoot out, where the standard Lightning goes up against the MV Agusta Brutale S (this is the 750cc bike, not the newer 910cc bike) and the Aprilia Tuono 1000R, the Lightning WINS: http://news.motorcycle.com/shoot-outs/streetfighte r-shootout-15078.html

Nobody buys street fighters or sport bikes to receive low output engines.

Funny I have been a member of MO for so long, I got used to the the wacky site design.

I don't know if I like the new format...

Sad that Gabe is not there anymore, but hopefully they will remain a Buell friendly publication.

I thought the review was generally fair, but I do have a gripe with the price tag complaint. Yes, it is more than the other bikes, but as Gabe stated (now granted, the Triumph wasn't in the review), you quickly make it up in maintenance compared to the other bikes.

So, would I like to be given one of the other bikes to ride for a day, review, and give back, sure, probably. But to OWN one of those other bikes, for me, now that's another story....

My underpowered bike still has yet to be ridden to its limit by me on a track, and I unlike everyone else dont need a bike with huge amounts of power to have fun or make up for my lack of ability.

On that note, I have rode a 919 and it was faster, after I revved the crap out of it, and I dont like riding bikes that feel like my ol lady's toys in the panty drawer.

This is not a dig AT you btw.

Exactly for now I ride a drz400sm and I went on a bike rally last week where there was 2 gsxr100, 1 gsxr750 a R1 and many other 600 sport bikes on some nice twisties up to Gold River and even if the road allow faster speed in the corners then I can reach on a strait line the only bikes that stayed in front of me were the 1000's and I didn't even reach the limits of my bikes yet so underpowered bikes? who cares?

Motorcycle.com has always given the XB line up more praise than any other mag. They love the bike but of course they have things they wish were different about it. That goes with any bike though not just the Buell.
