I spent a fruitless Saturday morning scouring our local bike emporiums, looking for something (anything) to buy lol. The Yamahondukisaki shops were the first. Japanese bikes are so...unfinished. Hideous exhausts, scruffy wiring, cheap fasteners. And the number plate brackets ! Huge, tasteless lumps of plastic compromised by underseat exhausts. What is all that about ? After a short time, the stack-em-high presentation and blandness became overwhelming and I resorted to time-wasting tactics (price list ? No way ! Brochure ? Pfft ! Test ride ? You're joking !) and simple games: * most hideous top yoke: Kawasaki ZX6 * most offensive number plate hanger: Yamaha R6 * cheapest brake levers: Kawasaki ZX10 * worst welding: Suzuki GSX-R * most imaginative use of aluminium foil: Honda Fireblade All the numbers are there, but as for actually buying and owning one - no way. The Ducati shop was a little more inspiring, if only for the acres of marble and glass. The 1098 looks like an Italian attempt to copy a Japanese bike, clearly built to a price. The older models have more pizzazz but don't seem to wear too well and have either been owned by a total nutter or 500 mi per annum Sunday rider. The BMW shop had bikes that were made for aliens living on another planet, basically cars cut in half. And so I finished my tour at the H-D shop, recently refitted with a dedicated Buell area and a good stock of new/used Buells. A friendly greeting and a mutual appreciation of an achingly good-looking 07 yellow Firebolt confirmed why I bought a Buell. I can only hope that next month brings us something special. Erik, you have a customer waiting. |
