I have a 0 X1 lightning and the front rocker box gaskets started to leak. Ive changed the rear in the past and it didnt seem too hard. When i pulled the gas tank off today to get started it looks like the rocker box itself will not come out, it wont fit between the frame. Do i have to loosen the motor mounts and drop the motor down a little bit in order to get the rocker box out? Is there any special trick to replacing the front rocker box gaskets? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Chris |

Chris, I know the front will come off on an 00 S3 without doing anything weird. It took quite a big of finagling and IIRC it was a really tight fit at one point, but it did come off and go back on without the use of hammers, prybars, or explosives. Hugh |

Same with my 01 Cyclone - it's like one of those iron ring puzzles. If you stare at it long enough, it will come out "easily". |

k9t8m, I just did my front gaskets and I did drop the motor down. It was fairly easy and I took digital pics of the stuff I had to disassemble (before I dissambled it)to help with reassembly. The floor jack went on the front shock mount, rear tire in lift, bolts and linkages removed. It made it soooooo much easier. I also took my time and enjoyed it. BTW I had never done it before. NO leaks. |
