I used to really enjoy riding at night but the deer around here have just gotten ridiculous. I don't know why the DNR doesn't loosen up the hunting restrictions on the buggers. I would think that it would make sense to have paid licensed hunters take them out then all the damage done to vehicles that hit them. An Iowa farmer was just convicted this spring for shooting a deer out of season that was eating his fruit trees. The State had the gall of charging him $1,500 for the 'replacement cost' of the deer. I'm sure that money went right into the general fund. |

I actually feel safer at night. Since cagers are more visable and so am I. |

I actually feel safer at night. Since cagers are more visable and so am I. All the close calls I've had with deer were int he daylight. This sounds crazy, but I can see deer sooner in the dark than I can in daylight. You have to watch for the headlights reflection in their eyes. Scary. |

The problem is NOBODY is poaching anymore! In the old days you had to go into the woods and hunt, now you get more deer along side the road. I have been driving around at night using a deer marker to keep them away from the road. Hopefully this will catch on and will be sanctioned by the DNR. |

I worry about deer at night just because they are moving around more. If I see them great but if they are too close when I see them then things could go badly. Speaking of being safe out there. Here is a question I have. Is there any data that riding in the rain is more dangerous per mile traveled for motorcyclists? Any statistics ever published? |

Was out today with a few other Buellers in the Colo high country and one of the guys almost lost it trying to avoid hitting an elk (big one too) in broad daylight. He had a great recovery tho |

We are plagued with deer here too as well as bears, the bears are no fun to hit either. |

2005 was my Deer Year. Leaving work a deer ran into the side of my car. I thought it just grazed my left mirror until I got home and tried to open my door. $1700.00 for left front fender, straighten driver door, and paint. Second deer encounter driving on route 55 towards Senca Rocks an hour before dark the critter was leaping over tall grass from the right. All I saw was the white flash of his neck then Bang followed by anti-lock brake chatter. Got the hood, right fender, headlight bucket, grill, radiator support frame, fan shroud. Momma's Rodeo was still driveable so I made it home. Cost about $3500.00. I run that road 8 to 10 times a year on my XB9SL. I'm afraid if I had been driving my Buell I would have been just another 20 second news blurb. Here in West Virginia you can get deer permits from the DNR if deer damage crops. |

One time I hit a deer coming up to a stop light in town, while I was in heavy traffic. The deer landed in the front grass of a church and had a broken spine as its front legs were still good. The local cops showed up but didn't have a deer kill permit for me to take it home so we had to sit around and wait for the county to show up with one in hand. The funny part about it was a couple of little girls were walking to school and the officer trys to shoo them off so he can finish the deer and it was just like the scene from Napoleon Dynamite. BANG!, EEEEE! BANG!, BANG! EEEEEEEEE! Anyways, three shots later and I'm telling him "Uh, don't you think thats enough?" on the way home I can hear the darn thing kicking in the trunk... Gotta teach something other than "Aim for the center of mass" when you are doing deer. |

I just missed one this morning on the way to work. We were on a collision course for sure as she ran from the left side of the road. I honestly don't know how I missed her but she must have stopped just as we met door to nose....Scary as hell..... At least you guys in the midwest and eastern states do have deer seasons. Try shooting one in Cali and all the nuts come out of the woodwork trying to hang you for killing a poor defensless animal...... BC Steve |

In my 15 years I 've had my licensse I have hit 5 different deer!! I also recieved my Mc endorsement when I was 16 but have been fortunate enough to stay away from them on my scoot. I usually stay about 5 under the speed limit at night and I always ride with my brights on and wear full gear. |
