Add the Car Quest 85394 (manufactured by Wix, same as NAPA 1394 and Wix 51394). I also don't like Fram filters. Cut one open and you'll see why. | ||

Also throw in the Amsoil EAO09 into the list even though it is three times the price of the other filters listed. | ||

I'll be running pure one filters from now on, on this bike. They have some really good numbers on bob is the oil guy standing up to the amsoil ea filters. The price is nice too. Oh and even though I am a function over form guy the outside shell is painty nice and pretty with sparkly paint. Too bad I couldn't get a chrome job like the harley guys! | ||

Fram filters have cardboard end caps, narrow pleats, fewer pleats and a simple, wimpy "leaf" spring instead of a coil. I've been in the automotive business for years and cannot recommend Fram filters. They simply are not as good as other filters. | ||

walmart Super Tech 4967 used to be the same as the Buell original equipment made by Champion, but I haven't seen them lately at my local Wally. | ||

The amsoil eao09 is a filter for the nissan pickup that someone else mentioned. I cross referanced it from the purolator filter # that was listed on here. It is $15.30 retail, which makes it not really worth it unless you are using it for more than two oci. Amsoil warranties this filter for 25k or 1yr service interval. | ||

Question: Do all of these filters have the same oil pressure bypass ratings... If too low, you can suck oil debris into the engine. If too high, you can loose oil volume. | ||

I have an EAO09 on mine now and the EAO10 should fit as it is only 1/2 inch longer. I talked to the Amsoil tech and all the spec's are almost exactly the same as the Wix#51394. The next time i change my filter [next year] i'll use the EAO10 for the extra capacity. I believe the PSI bypass rating was 8-10. | ||

So either the filter is now different than the OEM or else the OEM lacks the spring. Anybody else notice this? | ||

05mxdiesel. I use it for one season and one oil change. I use 20/50 MCVQT Amsoil. I usually ride 8,000 plus miles a year. You could probably use it for two years but for the price of 3 qts of oil and a filter one year is good enough for me.If your a perferred customer {$20.00] a year the filter cost me $11.65 and i believe the Wix was 5 dollars and change. I have never heard of a filter having such ratings. The oil pressure relief spring is part of the engine NOT the filter. I think you are confusing the bypass with an anti drain back spring. No need for anti drain back if the filter is mounted inlet end up anyway. | ||

Interesting observation, Professor........... I have two SuperTech ST4967 filters in the house. One is in a green and black box. It is exactly like the Buell filters were at the time I bought about 8 of them at Wal-Mart a couple of years ago. The other one I bought in March in Georgia, also at Walmart, on my way back from March Badness IV. It is on a Blue and Black box, and as the professor says, it does not have the coil spring. It does have what is referred to on the box as a "patented anti drain back valve", which looks like blue disc. The base plate looks just like the older unit, and is stamped AA, which I think is the Champion code, and all the other details of construction are just like the older unit. Anyone know what this all means? I must admit that I take particular pleasure in buying an $8.00 part for two bucks, especially when the parts are exactly the same: the occupational hazard of being a life long Cheapskate.  | ||

The buell filters are made by the same people that make the AC delco and ST but is of higher quality than ether. I am sure Champ has different options available to companies as how to manufacture the filter. like the ST has a cheaper oil seal than the delco or the ST and the Buell filter has a much thicker filter media and a much better oil seal. looks to be the same as the Mobil 1 Champ versions |
