Okay,
My stator is putting not 0 AC volts so I'm taking the primary/clutch off to get to it. I've acquired the locking bar and I know the engine nut is 1-1/8 (or 28mm). What size is the clutch nut? its bigger than 1-1/8, but thats the biggest socket I have.

Also I have a nice impact wrench (350 ft-lbs), but I think i read somewhere not to sue it, can someone confirm and enlighten me as to why?

Thanks
Matt

The thought was that the impact wrench would knock the magnets off the rotor bell (they are glued on).

You don't need an impact tool, just get your locking bar in there, put a 2' long 1/2" drive breaker bar on there, and bounce on the bar. It'll come right off.

Socket sizes are in the knowledge vault. In a pinch, remember that when bolts get this big, millimeters cease to be that important, so there is probably both a metric and a SAE size that will work perfectly. I took a set of dial calipers, measure the flats of the nut, left them at that setting, and took them to the local Sears and found one that matches.

Since then, somebody put them in the knowledge vault... so if you do enough searching you should be able to find them.

"The thought was that the impact wrench would knock the magnets off the rotor bell (they are glued on)."

Worse, yet, you could potentially get the crank halves out of alignment with each other. They are only held in phase by the pressed-in rod journal.

Don't forget the clutch nut is reverse threaded.

I just bought the sockets for mine this weekend. The clutch hub nut is 1-3/16.

Thanks!

Just for reference
