Anyone using 5.1? Tried a couple of searches, but couldn't find anything relevant. Everything I can find, only says that 5.1 is compatible with DOT 4. Was just about to install my new LRB Golds and decided to go ahead and replace the fluid. I have an unopened bottle of Motul DOT 5.1, but wanted some input before I do something I might regret. The Dot 5.1 brake fluid is a glycol based fluid that mixes with Dot 4 with no problems. The advantage of it is that it has a higher wet and dry boiling point than Dot 4. The only disadvantage is that it cost rather more than Dot 4, and fluid boiling is not normally a problem on street bikes. Not to be confused of course with Dot 5 which is silicone based, and not at all compatible with Dot 4. |

Gj, The label states it's compatible with DOT 3/4, so I'm not as worried about mixing the fluids as I am about any adverse effects it may have on an XB(ya' gotta admit these XB's can be finicky). |
